You need to drain all the fuel contaminated with diesel from the fuel tank and put in a gallon or two of fresh gasoline. As it starts and runs, you may not need to drain the fuel line to the carburetor and the carburetor bowl. With fresh gasoline in the tank the diesel will slowly diliute and smoke should clear in a few minutes.
No model # cadet told or year. Told. 100 + MODELSAND ENGINES, NOT TOLD/ 1572?

Diesel + carb ????really? (same as muffler bearings)_
KUBOTA DIESEL ENGINE??????
Because it is a diesel, there are glow plugs
and must function correctly those.
like this post 1980
Your tractor appears to be the Cub Cadet 1772 diesel. Be careful, they made that same tractor with a Kubota, 3-cylinder GASoline engine. The differences should be obvious, but believe it or not, it's really hard to tell the difference between the two because the fuel injectors on the diesel look a whole lot like the spark plugs on the gas engine. Just double check!!! (not to any mechanic, looks same)
do not put gas in a diesel
do not put diesel fuel in a gas engine with CARB as you said.
no model told , no photo of this so call CARB posted.
seems to me blind and no model or photos of the engine your FUEL is a train-wreck. (and cure obvious)
Its not air cleaner, no adjustment needed, just put in fresh gas but be sure to change spark plugs, it will then be fine.
Make sure the air cleaner is clean. May need to make an adjustment to the air fuel mixture when it is warmed up, Make sure the choke is opening all the way.
Testimonial: "Got new carb becausegas had gotten into crankcase, that’s how all this started"
yes float valve stuck , raw fuel, past piston rings and to oil sump.
most things like this not drained in fall
fuel goes bad for sure in carb guts and it gums up and carb fails/.
lawn toys or motorcycles for 100 years.
all do the same ,repeats. best is drain the carb, with a fuel shut off valve in line.
for winter.,
good luck there make sure the tiny air paths in the carb are clean too not just fuel paths and jets./
