Crest Audio CPX 1500 help.

Hello. I bought two crest audio 1500 thinking they can run at 4 OHM bridge mode. But a rear tag says: output rating per chan:500w/4 Ohm min load bridged mono:8 Ohm but the user manual says it supports 4 OHM bridge mode. Anybody knows if it really supports 4 OHM bridge mode? thank you very much.

Read the manual!
The Bridge mode on stereo amplifiers is often misunderstood relating to actual operation and usage. In basic terms, when a 2-channel amplifier is operated in the Bridge mode, it is converted into a single-channel unit with a power rating equal to the sum of the power rating for each channel, at a load of twice that of the single- channel rating. For example, the CPX 1500 is rated at 750 watts RMS per channel into 2 ohms. The Bridge rating is 1500 watts RMS into 4 ohms (minimum load). Bridge mode operation is accomplished by placing the MODE switch in the BRIDGE position, using only the BRIDGE Speakon connector or the red binding posts for the output, and using the CHANNEL A input. All CHANNEL B input func-tions are defeated and serve no purpose now. Bridge mode operation can be used to drive sound distribution systems in very large public address applications. Another common use for the Bridge mode is in subwoofer applications where very high power levels are required to reproduce extremely low frequencies with ade- quate headroom. Such enclosures usually contain 2 or 4 loudspeakers to handle the power levels involved. For Bridge mode usage, the enclosure impedance must be 4 or 8 ohms. Never below 4 ohms.

In that case it is not a CPX1500, it is its little brother.

Crest audio cpx 1500 , one channel stop working ,why

Often you can track the source of the heat down to a specific semi-conductor. This is often down to touch. The thing that heats up the first and gets the hottest should be replaced.

Crest audio ca12

Dust in the unit - clean with Canned air like a computer.

or Delamination on the printed circuit board.
Don't forget to clean all contacts on the backside of the unit!

If cleaning doesn't work - head to the local Crest "AUTHORIZED" Service Center.

Need a power transformer from 220v input to 120v output

Yes, you need a step down transformer. These are often rated in watts (the power rating is the same on both sides of a transformer) so it is easy enough to match this with the power consumption of the stereo. Apparently you will need about a 4kW transformer eg

Ugly things.

Can cpx 900 be bridge @4 ohm?

The short answer is no. This amp was designed to be bridged with an 8Ohm load not 4. That being said, the unit will work, but get very hot and possibly get damaged should you provide it too low an impedence load. DO NOT conenct this ti a 4Ohm load in bridge mode.

Every time I turn the amp on it shuts its self off.

disconnect all speakers and test if the problem corrected you will have a problem in your speakers(either wire or speaker itself)-try to connect the speakers one by one until you find the bad one and change it--if all above does not work send your amp to service center near you

What Crest Amplifier series replaces the VS series

This is kind of an ambiuous question. Are you looking for barrier strip inputs and outputs? Are you looking for 70V output lines? Or are you looking for a standard 1/4" TRS input with either 1/4" or speakon outputs? If you can describe your application requirements, I can provide you with a recommendation.

Thanks,
Dan

My CA9 has protect recurrent problems.

if you are bridged in parallel instead of in series the amp wont support the load so it turns the power protect on till the amp cant handle nomore then the amp will go if you have two subs bridged run them left speaker possative to to the amp possative for bridged mode then laft speaker negative to the right speaker possative then right speaker negative to your amp negative for bridged mode if you have them left and right speaker possative to amp possative and left and right speaker neggative to your negative to your amp thats parallel the ampwont support the 2 ohm load

No power

These amps are very compact and are not the easiest to work on. If you are not experienced at repair, I would not recommend you start here. Where are you located?
