Panasonic pv-gs12 camera and Windows Vista

I have a Panasonic pv-gs12 camcorder and was given a laptop as a gift, which came with Windows Vista. I can't get the software downloaded from the Panasonic website, because it is not compatible with Vista! Is there any way around this, so I can get my video uploaded? I have windows movie maker, which won't recognize my camera (which is why I tried to download the software from Panasonic). Help me, Please!!!!

Same issue, I just got a new pc as my old one finally packed it in, but it's running windows vista. I can't for the life of me get it to recognize my panasonic mini dv camcorder, it's a GS32. I bought a firewire usb off ebay for my old pc as well but never got a chance to install it before it bit the dust. Does anyone know if it would work in vista? If so, how on earth do you install the darn thing?

I've learned my lesson and will share it. Use firewire and try WinDV. Best of luck.

SOURCE: Connecting camcorder to PC

USB is not for transferring video from this camcorder. What you need is a firewire cable to connect camcorder to your computer. If you don't have firewire port on computer, you need to get install a firewire card.

SOURCE: Panasonic PV-DV402 with Windows Vista

That is the sad truth about Vista, manufacturers are either slow at providing support for older equipement or ignoring them altogether. Panasonic has not upgraded the software for that camera since 2003. You best solution would be to create a second partition on your computer and install Windows XP in a dual boot configuration, but that would cause problems as your should do it the other way around (install XP then Vista). Or you could buy a cheap XP computer (a used one or value one). Or you could upgrade to a newer camera.

Although you may luck out downloading software for a newer camera from panasonic, maybe this driver might work: ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/Drivers/capture/ComMass.zip

Does the camera have firewire? Did you try connecting it that was?

SOURCE: Panasonic PV-DV953D video transfer to PC

This is what you can do.

1) You can download & upload movie thru Firewire on miniDV tape.
2) You can take MPEG4 video on SD card only.
3) You can download & upload still picture and MPEG4 thru USB.

You use firewire (iLink) to access miniDV tape.
You use USB to access SD card and web video thing.

DV953 (MX5000/500) is very high end camcorder. They can do almost everything that most of camcorder do.

Just don't expect too much for MPEG4 video.
Try this option also you have to use firewire(DV) cable and DV input in your computer to import video to PC at least .

Hope this may help;

I need to know what kind of tapes I need for my panasonic pv-43d camcorder and where to find them?

This camera uses mini-DV tapes which are widely available online or in camera shops. If I was buying, I would start with Amazon.co.uk

My windows 7 laptop does not recognize my Panasonic Mini DV Camcorder PV-GS39 and therefore cannot capture video any ideas?

You are going to have to check that your firewire is being seen by windows 7 first of all. If not you will need to rectify that.
When you do get it to recognize it, here is a link for an update to the program that came with your camcorder for it to work with Windows Vista but it should also work for Windows 7.

Capture digital video using Panasonic PV-GS12 and USB

Here's what I learned. 1. Connect with FIREWIRE. It's all of under 10 bucks if you shop around. 2. Use WINDV to capture if you need to. Hint: Free. 3. Use better software than what comes with the camera.
