The brushes are probably wearing out. They can also smoke if they get dirt or something on them. You can take the drill apart and replace the brushes, but if they are just burned some, take some fine sand paper or emery cloth and polish the armature where they run and clean the brushes and reinstall.

After removing the screw and inserting the allen wrench shift the drill to the LOW position and turn the clutch to the drill only position. Use an allen wrench about the size of the chuck capacity so that it will not flex when hitting it with a mallet. Sometimes they are stubborn because of the torque but this should work. Put the allen wrench at about a 30deg angle and hit the wrench. I support the chuck on a workbench or a block of wood will do fine. The chuck has standard threads.

HI,
Most hand-held drills have chucks that screw onto the shaft with a right-hand thread. Reversible drills lock the chuck in place with a left-hand threaded screw inside the chuck. To remove this screw, open the jaws of the chuck all the way and use a screwdriver to back out the screw (turning it clockwise, of course, to loosen it).
The easiest way to get the chuck off, once the screw is out, is to chuck the short end of a large Allen wrench into the drill, run the drill backwards at low speed, and let the long end of the Allen wrench bang into a concrete floor or a 2x4 or something until you hear a pop and the chuck just screws off. The impacts seem to loosen stuck threads very well.
The problem with my drill was that my clutch was damaged and I couldn't get enough of an impact to loosen the threads. I had to get to the clutch before I could get to the chuck.
HOPE THIS HELPS!

I think you will find that if you open the chuck fully you will see a cross head screw inside the chuck which you need to undo before removing the chuck. this secure the chuck from unscrewing while being used in reverse to undo screws. Once this screw is out a spanner is used at the base of the chuck to unscrew it from the shaft. this may need a short sharpe shock to get it to move.
