they are not gone just reinsert the old sim and you should have your msgs

You can go to www.unlockitnow.com,www.mobile2mobile.net or take it to a mobile service center that unlock phones close to you for a small fee.

I would recommend to both that you contact and follow your carriers verbal instructions regaurding this matter.

u r sim must have any problem,u r sim card and u r cellphone doesn't match frequency

It depends on which carrier the prepaid was with.
if The original prepaid and your wifes plan are both with the same carrier then it should be no problem just swap the sim over.
eg ( telstra to telstra ) or Optus To optus.
If the v3 is an Optus predaid and your wifes sim is a telsra plan then it wont accept the sim as the carriers lock the prepaid phones to their network
