SOURCE: replacing the spool of string

If it is the same as my old 12V version, flip it over and look at the bottom, this is the cap for the string, on the sides there are two push button latches, depress and pull the cap off. Then reach in and remove the old spool. Insert the new spool with the circular sawtooth design to the inside and push the end of the string through the hole in the side. Replace cap ensuring that both latches engage.

How to change the spool in the black and decker grasshog

Is this the cordless Grass Hog? Turn the trimmer upside down so you're looking at the bottom. There are two orange tabs on either side of the spool -- push these in and the head should pop up so you can pull it out.

On the new spool, feed the cord out several inches and stick it through the hole in the trimmer where the old cord stuck out. Then pop the spool into the cavity so that the orange cover faces out (toward you). Pull the cord taut and make sure it is not long enough to hit the plastic guard. If it is too long and it touches the guard, pull the spool off and wind the cord in a little bit. If the cord is too short, pull the spool off and thread out a little bit more length and try again.

Turn the trimmer right side up and turn it on to make sure it works. If you hear a loud rapid thumping sound that sounds sort of like a machine gun, the cord is too long and is hitting the plastic guard.

My grasshog motor runs but the spool does not rotate. Please tell me if this can be fixed or not

It probably can be fixed. You may want to see what is wrong before you do anything else. Look to see if something has been wound around the spool. Check to see if the cable may be broken. If it is the cable you want to see if the fix is more expensive than a replacement. Good luck...Lee

Battery to fit Black & Decker CST20000 Grasshog weed eater. Where can I buy just the battery or battery pack?

Unfortunately, the battery pack as a unit has been discontinued, but the battery itself (part #243213-00) can be purchased online. Amazon sells it for $35.99. You can find it here:

My Balck&Decker Grasshog won't automatically feed line.

Just replace the LEVER, Item #29, Part #598435-00, for about $3.00 (B&D, Dewalt). Just pull old level straight out (pliers) and push replacement in. Level end expands to hold it in place. No other parts. Forget cleaning and replacement the spool, graphite or oiling... just replace the lever.

How do I refill the spool with new cord. the whole towns out of the refills. I bought new line, but cannot figure out how to wind the cord onto the black thingy. Its a dual line feed.

The grasshog xp takes .080 heavy duty line, do not use any other grade other then .080!
First remove the orange cap by depresssing the two buttons. Next unscrew the screw and remove the tumbler. You'll want about 50' of line for each of the two spindle slots. Start on the spindle closest to you by inserting about an inch of line into the hole in the base and statr winding it snugly in the direction as show on the spool, take your time and do it nice and neat and the line will last you longer then if you rush and do it sloppy. At the end leave about 6/8 inches and temporarily fasten the end on one of the nitched holders. Start the inside spool from the opposite end that you started the other and repeat the same. Once they are both spooled and temporarily fastened at opposite ends from each other reattach the spool onto the edger, fasten the screw in place and un fasten each end at a time inserting the line through the wholes each on oppoing sides. Then reinstall the safety cap and you are done! For taking 15/20 minutes and 1/4 the cost of buying a new spool and saving throwing the old spool away it is well worth it =)

I need directions to replace string on black and decker cordless 18v grasshog

Go to home depot. look at the floor model and the replacement spools they sell there. Reverse engineer the stringing process or but a pre-loaded spool.
Otherwise,
1. Squeeze the tabs on the side of the head of the unit to remove the spool cover.
2. remove spool.
3. place end of string in small hole in center ring of spool.
4. wide spool with string in the direction of the arrows printed on the spool. DO NOT OVERLOAD!.
5. snap string into notch on spool and cut string leaving 6" exposed.
6. thread 6" of string through hole in side of unit head, replace spool, and replace cover.
7. go cut grass.
