Serial to usb wacom tablet problem

I have a Wacom Intuos tablet with a serial to usb converter. This set-up worked on my old computer, but my new computer doesn't detect the tablet and doesn't assign an open com port like the old one did. It tries to assign the used com port instead (modem) Any suggestions?

Vista x64 ultimate SP1, I have an onboard serial @ com1 and or a keyspan serial to usb on com3, I see the tablet in the device manager on both serial and usb, but can not get vista to recognize a driver for it. It does not respond to the stylus or mouse. The tablet for sure works on xp so I know it is not the tablet.........Please help This tablet is like an old friend!!!!, and I can't afford to replace it!!!

I just got Vista and it killed my Intuos2 w/serial to usb also, but here's a half solution:
Download Wacom driver 4.78-6 http://www.wacom-europe.com/int/downloads/driver/driver.asp?lang=en. Make sure you remove any other Wacom drivers, tablet, and reboot. Install 4.78-6 driver and select serial port when the choice pops up. Plug in your tablet with the serial to usb adapter, wait a few seconds and click retry. Complete the install and reboot.
Your Wacom tracking should work now, but certain things might not work like pressure sensitivity and you'll get annoying error "reinstall driver" pop-ups.

I think you can aslo buy a PCI-serial card for your computer and skip the serial-usb adapter since Vista doesn't support the adapter for Wacom tablets.. but I'm not sure if there's a working Vista serial Wacom driver either.. or ever will be. The age of XP and Legacy support is at an end my friends.

Where can i get a wacom bamboo tablet?

You can buy them new from places like Amazon or directly from Wacom. Just to confuse you more-- it used to be Bamboo, Intuos, and Cintiq. Now the entry level tablets are the Intuos, the mid-level has become the Intuos Pro, and then the Cintiq.

Where can I get a replacement USB cord for intuos 4 wacom tablet?

depends on the connector, looks like it could be a standard usb cable.

if it looks like this, standard usb cable.

There is also a micro 5 pin, used on most new cellphones.

or it could be a mini usb used for most cameras.

All pretty standard, one should fit. Good luck!

My computer is telling me I need to reinstall the software for my Wacom Intuos 3 tablet. I run on Windows 7. I've done nothing to uninstall it, why is it doing this?

Windows 7 is not fully compatible with older devices. You can try and update the driver or restart the PC, remove the device, and replace the Wacom tablet in another USB/serial port which will force Windows to recreate the device in the registry hopefully fixing the configuration.

Wacom Intuos 3 problems

Hi Bengref
Just talked to WACOM USA about a similar (but not exactly the same) problem with my Intuos 3. One of their procedures was;

go to the ALL Programs directory,

go to the the WACOM TABLET directory

open the WACOM Tablet Properties window

click on the "About" button

while holding down the CTRL key, click on the "Diagnose" button

click on the "recalibrate" button

Another procedure

go to the All Programs Directory

go to the WACOM Tablet Directory

click on the :WACOM Table Preference File Utility"

Under "My Preferences" click on remove

Good Luck

Wacom serial power to usb connection

If your table has a USB connection and requires a powered USB port, then don't waste your money or time. If it's the other way around and the table is powered from another source, the converter will likely work.
