Water Tastes Funny From Sub Zero Dispenser

We have a brand new (4 months old) Sub Zero with a water and ice dispenser in the door. The water and ice have a plastickey taste to it. We don't have this problem with tap water (it tastes fine) and when we flush the system out, the water also tastes fine. The water is seeming to taking on a taste when it is sitting in the tank in the refrigerator. Any ideas?

It will take about three to four months of using it before the plastic loses it freshness into your water. It has to dissipate the "New Car/Plumbing Smell" so to speak. It.s a normal unpleasant necessity but on the bright side... it does go away with use.

SOURCE: Sub Zero 650S with bottom freezer-Ice tastes funny(musty ? taste)

The 650 does not have a filter built into the unit. Any filter would be on the supply line to unit, usually in the basement below the unit, or under the kitchen sink. Do you use alot of ice? If not you may want to empty the bucket every few weeks to let it produce fresh ice.

Our Sub-Zero Mdl 680F is 11 years old, and virtually for its entire existence in our house, the water and ice dispenser has been un-useable because they taste bad. The taste was "oily" almost as...

Hello

Change the supply line to the plastic tube line or copper. Do not use a braided plastic or metal braided line these will make the water taste bad. Changed mine to the plastic line and cured mine, no filters needed.

Replace the water filter cartridge in your refrigerator if the ice tastes bad or the control center display recommends it.

My subzero 695 ice maker and water dispenser quit working. Do you have any ideas what I can do to make them start working again?

You might want to check out this forum. Your water controls on both the ice maker AND the door water are out? Could be a power supply issue or perhaps your unit only uses one water flow solenoid. Either way, head to this website and look for a forum for your unit.

Door panel to dispense ice and water doesn't work. the bulk ice dispenser inside the refrigerator is working.

I have the same problem. I have to turn off the power button on refrigerator and turn it back on again. Then the ice dispenser and water dispenser will work again. It happened very often.

Bad smelling water

The water lines are contaminated with bacteria and/or mold. This is a problem with many refrigerators. You need to turn off water and disconnect the feed line and filter. Mix 4 ounces of Clorox(R) in 1 gallon of water and pump it through with a NEW garden sprayer. You can remove the wand and clamp it onto the water inlet. Activate the dispenser while you pump the bleach through the system. Once bleach starts coming out the dispenser, vent the garden sprayer (de-pressurize), Let the bleach sit for 15-20 minutes. Re-attached water using a brand new filter (do not use the old filter and do not put bleach through filter). Run water until no chlorine odor (it can be a while). This process needs to be done at least once a year.

In door water and ice cube not working

Water dispenser is a simple touch switch in door energizing a solenoid water valve behind ventilation grate above refrigerator. Water tube runs down into and ends at ice dispenser chute. Should hear solenoid click at top of fridge when activate water touch switch. Can unhook discharge side of solenoid valve temporarily to prove water output. If water dispenser tube acts blocked it could be frozen where it ends-look up the hole at the bottom of refrigerator control buttons.
Ice maker is totally different system. No clicking when push ice button but ice in bulk tray may mean the simplest of malfunctions: Ice bin not pushed in the last half inch if ice auger not lined up with drive pegs. There are hidden switches behind ice bin that need to be engaged or nothing will happen in the ice maker: no auger noise, no clicking, no new ice making. Ice bin will be flush with sheet metal if it is in the right spot. Also plastic juice rack won't hang properly if ice bin not pushed in all the way.

Water/Ice Dispenser Does Not Consistently Work

Sammy, I am having the same problem with my 695. I have a call into subzero service and will let you know what I find out.

Thanks for your help as it fixed my problem as well, albeit temporarily.

No water or ice through door

sounds like the dispenser assembly is not sensing that the trap door is opening fully, so it wont send power to the auger motor or fill valve. If you are pretty handy, you can disassemble the door and take out the dispenser assembly and try to take the assembly apart and correct the throw on the trap door. Otherwise, I'm afraid you need a new dispenser to the tune of about $250 parts and $225 trip and labor. Good luck!
