SOURCE: Kenmore dryer hums but will not start

If it just hums the motor is probably on it's way out. If it makes a growling noise, it's the motor.

Why is Kenmore elite electric dryer making noise and has a burning smell?

If you have an older Kenmore dryer, the drum bearing and/or rollers may be failing. This would cause the drum to rotate unevenly (wobble) and possibly contact the heating elements on the rear panel. This would account for the banging noise and burning smell. Your dryer has to be serviced.

Kenmore dryer mod #110.66002010 is making strange noise after about 5 minutes of operation and gradually gets louder. Any suggestions on what the problem may be?

Like the last guy said could be the rollers for the drum in the front, or the main shaft bearing in the back. This all starts after the dryer starts to heat up.

GE DPXH46GA6CC gas dryer makes large humming noise in heat cycles and burning smell

Two things are likely going on here,1- something is dragging down your motor check for a twist in the belt, idler pulley bad, belt installed wrong or wrong belt. Also check your front drum felt and glides if the felt is bunched up that will drag down the motor. Now the smell you probably have some felt or lint in the burner clean it carefully you do not want to damage your igniter.

My Kenmore 90 Series electric dryer makes a humming noise when I push the start button. It heats up, run for a short while, then stops. Before it stops there is a clicking noise like a circuit or safety...

There's possibilty that the bearing is going bad. It would cause the belt to slide alittle when the drums starts to turn. The strain on the motor because of the bad bearing can cause the motor overload and shut down until it cools, then it can be restarted.

THE DRYER MAKES A LOUD GRINDING TYPE NOISE AND THERE IS A BURNING SMELL WHEN IT STARTS

Sounds like you have two problems cause by one problem.
Your noise is coming from your drum rollers needing oil and the smell is cause by the drum belt slipping because of the added pressure to try to turn the dry drum rollers.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS
Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication, or maybe your drum belt has slipped off of the idler arm pulley.
If you have a front loading machine,

Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch.
Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt.
Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm
pulley and motor.
Now is a good time to check the belt to see if it has slipped off of the
idler arm pulley and also to check the belt condition for wear.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go
to reinstall the belt.
Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots
or wear on them replace them.
If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably
only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade
of machine oil such as 3 in One oil.
Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.

My kenmore HD60 series dryer drum does not turn.

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Sounds like your problem may be the belt may have slipped off of the motor pulley, or idler arm pulley.
If you have a front loading machine.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum.
Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn.
While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them this will cause a noise like a thumping type noise. You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them.
I will include these two websites for parts and further help:

Both also have chat assistance 24/7.
Good luck,
I hope this helps
