The power adapter included with the device appears to be a JODEN JOD-SBU050242 (100-240VAC ~ 50/60Hz, 0.45A max. -> 5VDC 2.3A).

SOURCE: Connecting the camera via USB hub.

Use of a USB hub for connection does not guarantee normal operation. Try attaching the USB cable directly from the D-snap SD Camera to one of the built-in USB ports on the PC.

SOURCE: Power surge on hub port error msg

The printer is the problem, obviously but, also try using a different USB cable to see if that doesn't help! When plugging up th cable, look for anything out of the ordinary! If changing the USB cable doesn't resolve the situation then it could be something shorted out in your printer and you need to take it to a service shop for repair! regards, babb

SOURCE: power sugre with m240

Hi there. This message would indicate any one of the following: 1. You have a lot of USB devices plugged in to your computer, and the maximum power supply for the USB ports has been exceeded by plugging this player to your computer. It would be best if you unplugged 1 or 2 of the USB devices connected for the time being. 2. You are plugging the player on your front USB port, and may need to plug it in the rear USB port to acquire ample power supply (front USB ports do not get as much power as the rear USB port -- sad but true) 3. You are using a laptop and may need to try another USB port on that computer. Purchasing a self-powered USB hub would be ideal as it gets its power supply directly from the wall electrical socket.

SOURCE: Power supply for Targus 4 hub usb 2

Most USB hubs do not need an external power supply, except when a connected USB device draws more power than the computer/laptop USB port can supply. In this case an external power supply will need to be connected to the USB hub.
Normally this would be a 5 volt power supply, but make sure the polarity on the connector matches the power connector on the hub, check the label on the hub, sometimes it states to power requirements of the hub as well as the polarity on the connector. Normally the pin on the hub's power connector is positive (ie. +5V)

SOURCE: Western Digital Passport 160 GB external HD won't load.

WinXP SP2 blocks the use of the drive because it thinks it draws too much power. But there is a simple procedure to override this (from WD site):

"Problem:
Under Windows XP, an error message of "Power Surge on Hub Port" or "USB device has exceeded the power limits of it's hub port" is displayed when connecting a USB device to a USB port on a computer or Hub.

Cause:
Under some computers, USB devices are only allowed to draw a maximum of 500 milliamps (mA) per connection from the USB port on the computer system or from a USB hub. Under the Windows XP Operating System, with the release of Service Pack 2, if a device attempts to draw more than this (500 milliamps), a USB port balloon message is displayed to indicate this over current condition. When connecting a USB device that draws power from the USB bus, a very brief over current condition is sometimes detected by the OS, and the warning message is displayed.

Resolution:
This message has no affect on the functionality of the USB port. The USB hard drive should still function correctly on the USB port regardless of the error message. To prevent the USB Power Surge Alert message from displaying, please complete the following steps:
Click on Start.

Click on Control Panel.

Double-click on the System Icon.

Click on the Hardware Tab.

Click on the Device Manager button.

Click on the + next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers to expand the selection.

Right-click and select Properties on any listing that displays USB UNIVERSAL HOST CONTROLLER.

Click on the Advanced Tab.

Check the box that says: Don't tell me about USB errors."

This works fine, and the drive works fine afterwards. I suspect it actually draws less power than they say. Maybe it has a brief power draw spike on startup, but it's running power seems less. In any case, it works fine without the Y cable. I do think it is tacky that WD doesn't give the cable for free, since my $7 Sabrent 2.5" Hard drive enclosure came with a y cable.

But most likely the drive will work fine for you. It is a lovely quiet drive, and takes up no space at all.

Apple mobile device usb drivers has malfunctioned and exceed the power limits of its hub port.

Ewwwwwww... no fun.

You should try a "POWERED"

4 Port USB 3.0 Hub It's important that it's a "POWERED HUB" because you need the HUB to supply it's OWN power and not depend on your Apple E to provide power to your connected USB devices!

The good news is they don't cost much: $8 on eBay
Auction: 202096902632
Note that they include the power supply! Many other HUBS don't.

Your HUB is even LESS if you pick on the USB 2.0. Version, AND YES, each HUB MUST have it's own power supply and that's just what YOU need.

The ONE thing I didn't like about this HUB is the LED lights that are provided for each port! They are TOO bright so I opened it up and plucked all but one LED out. I also bought the 8 and 10 Port HUB versions and 'fixed' them too.

I also didn't need the switches to confuse things (accidentally turn one or more ports OFF)... so my trusty hot glue gun fixed that! All are constant ON now.

Targus 4-Port not working

First off hubs don't support a lot of power hungry devices so you should be able to buy an optional power adapter for the hub on targus' site.
Second if your computer doesn't have any usb 3 ports then the hub will only operate at usb 2 speeds.

Your probably overloading the hub. Buy the power adapter.

Usb port not working

Go to the device manager and remove all references/entries to USB at the end of the listing. Reboot and let windows reinstall the proper drivers.

If it still doesn't work, you do have the option of installng a PCI based USB port.

You are not using high power requirement equipment are you? You may need a UB hub with external power if you are. Just a thought.

Targus Travel USB 2.0 4-port Hub

sometimes usb hard drives will not work through a usb hub.
if the drive works connected to the laptop but not the hub then that's how you'll have to use it.
it's also possible the laptop cannot power both the hub AND the drive, in whaich case you'll need a powered hub (one you plug in to the mains).

My hard drive and midi controller wont work with usb

When you connect a hard drive and any other USB device to a 4 port hub you have to use the external power supply all the time. You may have fried the power pins on the USB port you used to connect the 4 port hub. If you can get the hard drive to work separately on the USB port, the 4 port hub may no longer be passing power from the laptop.
