As some others have suggested elsewhere, I purchased and applied Display Dimming Film available online. I suggest using a single piece that completely covers the opening (will probably require trimming to fit) rather than having two or three smaller pieces abut, otherwise sparkles of light will shine through the spices. Once you have this film, you will likely find other uses for it. For example a digital clock near a TV, or a overly bright power indicator light on desktop computer speaker, or the power indicator on the desktop computer itself that stays on in standby mode through the night.

Sounds like your microwave's outlet is on the same circuit with the lights.
High-current devices like microwave ovens should be on their own breaker if possible.
If the dimming is very slight, it may be okay.
If it's considerable, it may be a good idea to run a separate line to the microwave's outlet - especially if it starts blowing your breaker!
