To whom it may concern,
I've a problem with my Philips DVD+-RW DVD8631. It will not recgonize blank DVDs, but will play regular DVDs, CDs and will burn blank CDs. I've tried many times over to update the drivers and anything I can think of on the software side. I've also gone and deleted any and all burning software that may have caused a problem and reinstalled only the OEM installed Cyberlink PowerDVD and DVDShrink and DVD Decrypter. These ones have been on my computer for a while so I know they aren't the cause of the issue. The drive reads blank DVDs as CDs with 0 bytes free and 0 bytes used. I've even tried to find a solution on www.philis.com and all I got was another link to the same driver I've installed over and over. Is there anything else I can do short of buying a new drive? Thanks.
Jim

Try updating the firmware of the drive: http://www.opendrivers.com/freedownload/223893/philips-dvd+-rw-dvd8631-firmware-bd10-download.html (link not verified)

I have the exact same problem except with my Sony DRU-810a
Same issue here. I have a Philips DVD+RW-D28 and the drive does not recognize blank dvd's anymore after instally Dazzle DVD Recorder. I can burn and play CD's, play DVD's but still can not burn things to DVD's. Shows up as 0 bytes just like what the other person on here state. I have uninstalled Dazzle but the problem still exits. This drive only reads +R not -R
I have the same problem. My Philips DVD +- RW DVD8631 does not recognize blank DVD or burn a DVD. I have tried Memorex DVD -R, -RW and +R - none of these worked in my DVD drive. I can however play a DVD or CD and burn a CD using this DVD drive.
To whom it may concern,
I have a friend that is running a Dell, with DVD8631, and he's having the same problem. However, on my computer, I'm running a Sony DVD+-RW DL DRU810. I'm having the same problem with that also. The only thing that I find that works to solve the problem is to totally format the hard drive that contains the OS, and reinstall windows. I do know that there are certain programs that will cause this issue, and I have run into a couple of DVD's that will also make the drive act like this. Hope this helps someone.
I have very similar problem with Philips DVD8631. It sporadically recognizes a blank DVD, while not recognizing about 5 to the one that is recognizes. There does not appear to be any reason. I just went thru 25 DVD+R and only 9 were recognized by Philips. The rest were invisible.
Please advise if you find a solution!
