There is no mechanical defrost timer in this particular model. You will have to run diagnostics on this. Its can be either the jazz board pt# WPW10464769 or the defrost thermostat/bimetal pt# 12001937.
I reccomend running diagnostics first.

To start with we need to start the refrigerator's diagnostic mode. To do this open the refrigerator door and press one or both door switches, depending on your refrigerator type. Next press the refrigerator temperature (+) button three times in ten seconds and release the light switch or switches. This should display an "S" in the freezer display and an "E" in the refrigerator display. Then press the refrigerator temperature (+) button one time to confirm that you want the service mode. You will then see a set of numbers displayed showing the software version for three seconds. (Again this control board is used on many different refrigerators.) After the software version is shown the freezer display should show "1" and the refrigerator display should be blank. Congratulations! Pat yourself on the back, you are now ready to do refrigerator diagnostic magic! Within the refrigerator diagnostic test mode there are 6 diagnostic tests:

1Defrost Thermostat DiagnosticsRefrigerator 2Compressor & Condenser Fan DiagnosticsFreezer 3Evaporator Fan DiagnosticsRefrigerator Sensor 4DiagnosticsFreezer Sensor DiagnosticsRefrigerator 5Damper Door Diagnostics

You can select the test number you would like to run by pressing the freezer temperature (+) or(-) button until the test number you want is in the freezer display. Then using the refrigerator(+) button to cycle the test on and off.

How do,I find where the defrost timer on rca whirlpool gold bottom freezer model number gb2shdxpt01

This model has a jazz board. Its electronic defrost timer not mechanical.

To determine whether u need to get a jazz board or a defrost thermostat/bimetal, you will have to run diagnostics.

Defrost Thermostat DiagnosticsRefrigerator Compressor & Condenser Fan DiagnosticsFreezer Evaporator Fan DiagnosticsRefrigerator Sensor DiagnosticsFreezer Sensor DiagnosticsRefrigerator Damper Door Diagnostics

You can select the test number you would like to run by pressing the freezer temperature (+) or(-) button until the test number you want is in the freezer display. Then using the refrigerator(+) button to cycle the test on and off.

NOTE: Most tests will need to be turned off before you will be allowed to move to the next test with the freezer temperature buttons.

Test#1 Defrost Thermostat Diagnostics

After pressing the refrigerator (+) button you will see ether an "O" or an "S". "O" means that the freezer's defrost thermostat is open and will not allow electricity to reach the defrost heater. An "S" means shorted or closed. The word shorted sounds bad but actually that is what you want to see if the freezer is cold. If you see an "O" (open) and the defrost thermostat is cold that means you need to replace the thermostat. The thermostat should be shorted or closed anytime it is cold and it's safe to run a defrost cycle. This test will also check the defrost heater. If ether the defrost thermostat or heater are broken or "open" and the evaporator is iced up, you will need to replace the bad part.

Turn the timer slowly clockwise until the compressor and fans stop. Leave the timer alone in that position that turned the compressor and fans off for up to 35 minutes. In the first few minutes after the timer turned fans and compressor off you should be getting defrost. If timer comes on by itself and you have defrost results the timer and defrost heater are good. If the timer does not turn the refrigerator back on but the defrost took place then replace the timer. Every different refrigerator or freezer has a different amount of time on for cooling and time off for defrost so it is important to know what the model number is to answer the part number and time off/on ratio. What is the model number of the refrigerator that the timer is on? Sea Breeze

Freezer is not deforsting

If your model you listed is a TFX27PRBWW it will have a defrost timer located in the fresh food compartment and behind the controls. It's location is 257 in this photo HERE I would like you to turn the timer clockwise slowly until youi hear the compressor and fans stop. This should put the refrigerator into defrost if the defrost heater is still working. Did you hear any crackling or sizzle when place into defrost this way? Wait up to 35 minutes for the timer to come out of defrost and it should restart the refrigerator compressor and fans. If it does not come on automatically then simply turn the timer slowly clockwise again until they do restart. If you need to turn timer again to start refrigerator you will need to replace the timer=> WR9X489 Defrost Timer
2_1_2013_8_42_52_pm.jpg

If the defrost timer is not the problem then we move to the freezer side, remove the rear panel of freezer and defrost the frost covering the evaporator as in this photo HERE The model TFX27PRBWW takes a=> WR51X10055 Defrost Heater Assembly
2_1_2013_8_53_33_pm.jpg

and the defrost thermostat=> WR50X122 Defrost Thermostat
2_1_2013_9_08_25_pm.jpg

The defrost heater is location 230 and the defrost thermostat is location 24 in this photo HERE Instructions in testing these parts are located on the parts pages I listed above. Please let me know if the model number is different than the one above your post so I may help you better, Thanks Sea Breeze

Defrost is stuck in one all time it not cooling or freezing

A DEFROST TIMER is a cycling device, it times the frequency and duration that the defrost heater coils melt the ice that builds up around the evaporator coils. If ice is allowed to build up, air will not be able to freely flow past them - resulting in reduced efficiency and sometimes a drastic warming of the cooling unit.

zjlimited_1583.jpg

Most of the time, the defrost timer is in the cooling mode, allowing the compressor to activate when the thermostat signals it to. The remaining part of the cycle (usually less than 30 minutes)the timer is in defrost mode. In this mode, it signals the defrost heaters to melt the ice build up on the coils. This defrost action is limited by the defrost thermostat. If your DETROST TIMER go to bad, one symptom would be if your refrigerator is not cooling. Although there are many causes of this symptom, A stuck defrost timer can be one of them. The timer can get stuck in cooling (compressor activated) or defrost mode (defrost heaters activated) for usually two reasons:
- The timer motor can fail for one.
- The gears can also become locked up.

No matter what the reason is or which mode the defrost timer gets stuck in, the refrigerator can stop cooling. When the refrigerator is stuck in defrost mode, the compressor no longer comes on to cool the unit. If the timer gets stuck in cooling mode, the evaporator coils never get a chance to defrost, causing ice build-up to the point where there is a complete blockage of airflow past the coils.

The defrost timer can also cause the refrigerator to stop cooling due to failure of the internal switch which activates either the compressor or heater coils. Finally, when doing any repair on a refrigerator, check the condenser coils for dust buildup and clean accordingly.

According woth yur brand and model, look the part replacement in this link: partselect.com/refrigerator+test-defrost-timer+repair.

Good luck.

Is the ge tbx19 defrost clock continious or cumulative?

The timer will advance whenever the cold control is on. (when the compressor is running, or the timer has advanced into a defrost cycle) When the refrig is cold enough (and the timer has not advanced into defrost) the timer will not be advancing. A typical defrost timer will count up 8 hours of compressor run time before going into a 30 minute defrost cycle. (the run time and defrost time can vary greatly from model to model)

Freezer is on and just stopped working

you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

I have side by side refig model GSS25JFMCWW.I have to manually defrost by shutting off refrig. This model has defrost cycle, what would cause this cycle not to work?

Defective defrost timer, heaters, or defrost thermostat. Locate the defrost timer, rotate the dial (clutch head screw) clockwise SLOWLY until you hear one click. That puts the timer in defrost. Wait 25-30 minutes and the defrost should happen. Normally the timer will shift back to the cooling mode after 18-22 minutes. If it does not restart after the 30 minutes your problem is the defrost timer. Rotate the dial SLOWLY a little more and it should go back into the cooling mode. If you followed the above instructions and did not get a defrost the problem is in the heaters or defrost thermostat.
