Could be the printhead is at the right margin. But, if you hit the return key and nothing happins, it could be a bad board, power supply or transport motor. When you turn the machine on, does the printhead move all the way to the left, spin the printwheel and move to a set position?

SOURCE: Smith Corona 3L (old one)

I agree with JUSTOLDJIM. I recently found a 3L near the dumpster at my townhome. I took it in a looked at it. There is a black and white ribbon used for typing and erasure of ink.

As far as the TAB goes, I haven't used them yet.

Smith Corona se100 print head travels to extreme left, buzzes then powers down.

It sounds like there may be an issue with the print head carriage on your Smith Corona SE100 typewriter. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check for any obstructions: Make sure that there are no obstructions blocking the print head carriage from moving freely. If there are any obstructions, remove them carefully.
  2. Clean the print head carriage: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the print head carriage and ensure it is clean and free of any dust or debris.
  3. Check the power supply: Make sure that the typewriter is properly plugged in and receiving power. Check the power cord and outlet for any issues.
  4. Try resetting the typewriter: Turn off the typewriter and unplug it from the power source for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on again to see if the issue has resolved.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be a more serious issue with the print head carriage or other internal components. In that case, it may be best to take the typewriter to a professional repair shop or contact the manufacturer for assistance.

Smith corona SE100 Typewriter, need the printer ribbon gear

Question edited for Clarity.

Almost certainly nowhere. Sears advertises 'parts', but only the ribbon and says they are obsolete and no replacements. The computer and computer printer has killed the typewriter market.

You might get a used one on eBay and strip it for spares.

Smith corona SL480 instruction manual. I just need a manual so I know how to use the features built into the typewriter

How to Use a Smith Corona Typewriter A Smith Corona typewriter can be either a manual or electric model. Whichever model you have, the typewriter works in basically the same way. If you are familiar with a computer keyboard, you can type on a typewriter as the keys are laid out exactly the same. Unlike a computer, typing mistakes are harder to correct and, unless you use carbon paper, you will only have one copy of any document you type.

The print does not correspond with the keys I hit

make sure corr. tape is installed properly and has tension on it, and the same with the ribbon so they don't interfere with the free rotation of the printwheel, make sure the petals on the printwheel arn't bent, otherwise will need a repair shop

SMITH CORONA KA 13 WORD SMITH

For a manual, try Google. Just put in "Smith Corona KA 13 WORD SMITH MANUAL'. If you can't find one there, then you are prabably out of luck. To change the margin simply go to the left margin, use the "backspace" or spacebar to position the print head where you want the margin set and then push the L MAR key. To change the right margin use the same procedure and hit the R MAR key.
