I have to install the corrector ribbon. I think I am doing it right, but with no manual, I cannot tell. When I push the keys to have words corrected, the ribbon doesn't move. It just types in the exact same same space (on the correction ribbon).

Be sure the correction tape is thru both guides and that the dull side faces the paper. Go to brother.com click on support you will find a manual there.
The correction tape is probably not threaded properly.
Go to brother.com, click on support, poke around a bit and you will find a downloadable users manual.
I'll assume this is an ibm ww. Just below the ribbon deck on the right is the ribbon feed motor try na little WD40 on the upper and lower bearings they do gum up also be sure the ribbon motor is plugged in.
A few things to check, be sure the upper cover is fully closed, be sure the printwheel is properly installed and latched in place. check that the ribbon is properly inatalled, put the old ribbon back on and see if it works.
sounds like the corr tape doesn't have the proper tension on it. turn wheel on corr tape cartridge, or if there isn't a wheel, some don't, there is a little lever to the left and under the left side where the cart. fits down. push this until the arm on the right side moves to the left
Check to be sure that the correction tape is in properly and tight. Then make sure that the ribbon (and correction tape) are between the two metal "fingers" and the cardholder (which is the metal thing that holds the paper close to the platen right in front of the ribbon) Is the ribbon moving? You should be able to hold the ribbon up and see each letter on the ribbon. Also make sure the printhammer is locked forward. You should not be able to just reach in and take the printwheel out without the ribbon in place. The only other thing I can think of, is the ribbon got twisted some how. The dull side should be towards the paper.
Two possibilities, one the correction tape is twisted and the wrong side is .facing the paper. The shinny side should be facing you, the dull side facing the paper. Second possibility you must make sure the ribbon is compatible with the correction tape. There are 2 types of ribbons. A correctable one (orange or yellow knob) and a multi strike (blue or purple knob on ribbon cartridge). The lift off correction tape (orange or yellow spools) only works with the correctable ribbon and the cover up correction tape (blue) works with the multistrike ribbon.
the lift of tape has a dull side and a bright side make sure the dull side is toward the paper then press and hold the code key and the = key to reset the typewriter also see page 6 in the owners manual
