My old KitchenAid KDS-16 dishwasher is making a loud, high-pitch, metallic sound but it still appears to be operating OK.

I don't know if the problem is the drain pump, the motor, or the water inlet valve. I have kept it running for 25 years with vintage parts. I replaced the impeller and pump seal 5 years ago. Any suggestions?

There is a fan blade on the top of the pump shaft. IT is loose. They are pressed onto the shaft. The only thing you can do is replace the motor or the whole machine.

SOURCE: dishwasher makes a high pitch whine when it runs

instead of motor check out the motor impeller that can make the high pitched noise if rusted or cracked. ------------- Motor and pump assembly screw and impellor help....

One of the most common question that I get on a dishwasher repair is "how does that motor and pump impellor screw come out?"
Inside many dishwasher pump assemblies is a screw that goes through the upper impellor and screws directly into the motor shaft. Since the motor shaft and screw are made of metal...you guessed it...they can / will rust. The screw can rust and become very tight and difficult to remove!! These screws are normally a right ( regular ) hand thread, socket or nut driver can be used to remove the screw. One hard thing to do is to hold the impellor still so the screw can be removed, they often just turn together. The impellor may be jammed with a screwdriver to hold it still so the screw can be removed...sometimes the impellor can be help still by placing a rag on it and hold tight with your hand, the rag will help prevent a sharp edge on the impellor from cutting your fingers. The odd time that screw is too rusted into place, soaking a little rust buster or 3in1 oil on it over night may help loosen it. Sometimes trying to tighten the screw a little at first will help break it free. There are some tool ( see below ) that can be purchased to help hold the impellor still so the screw can be removed, these are only for a few models and pump assembly styles.
WLP seal tool helps center and install the pump seal
Frigidaire seal - impellor remover and install tool
Once the screw is removed, the next obstacle is the impellor can also get stuck onto the motor shaft. Many times I have to break off the old impellor. A sharp blow straight down with a hammer and flat screwdriver will often crack the plastic impellor...careful not to damage the pump body! If the motor shaft has indeed rusted, clean it up really good with sand cloth.

Our kitchen aid dishwasher is about 7 years old, recently it has begun making a high pitched whine while the wash cycle is running. The dishes are still clean, but the noise is new and annoying not to...

Sounds like it could be the bearing in the wash motor. If the sound is only present when you can hear water being thrown around then this would confirm it. Not sure about spares availability on a 7yr old machine though

Dishwasher Making Loud High Pitched Noise.

A loud high pitch whine while running the dishwasher means that there is something caught in the chopper assembly. To get to the chopper assembly you need to take the racks out and take the pump apart from the inside of the dishwasher. The chopper assembly looks like a metal grate with holes in it. And it might not even be stuck in the grate but somewhere in the pump area due to the water being pumped out, so the best idea is to take the whole thing apart and clean everywhere. However I do not recommend doing this unless you are completely certain you will remember where the screws and gaskets go, otherwise you risk damaging your pump or house from a leak or improper installation. You have been warned.

Squeeky noise

I own a Frigidaire Heavy Duty Dryer The Model # is FDE436RES1. It is 10 years old. When running the dryer it makes a very loud squealing noise although the heat and the dryer still work. Is this a belt or roller problem or does it sound like something else. It is very high pitched and can be heard throughout the entire home. I do not know much about dryer troubleshooting so your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
