Disabling touchpad on Asus - ASUS Computers & Internet

Step 1:
Touchpad Not Working in Laptop b> Locate the "Fn" key in the lower right or left corner of the laptop keyboard. The "Fn" key typically has different colored text on it or the key itself is a different color. Locate the function (F1 through F12) key at the top of the keyboard that disables or enables the touchpad on the laptop. The key typically has an icon that resembles a touchpad with a finger touching it or a touchpad with a diagonal line through it. Press both the "Fn" and touchpad Function key simultaneously to reactive the touchpad on your laptop. Move your finger along the touchpad to verify that it works. Press the combination at any time to disable the touchpad again.

If you are having problems with your touchpad try the steps below:

Click Start/Control Panel and look for the Mouse and open it to check the mouse properties. Make sure you don't have the touchpad disabled.

Some models will allow you to toggle the touchpad on or off by clicking on the button that is located at the top of the touch pad in the middle.

Some models will allow you to toggle the touchpad by tapping twice in the upper left hand corner of the touchpad.

Some models will require a keystroke to toggle the touchpad. Press and Hold the ALT or FN function key located at the lower left portion of the keyboard, then hit the key that toggles the touchpad. The correct key to hit will have the icon of a finger pointing at a square that represents the touchpad.

Download and reinstall the touch pad drivers.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "ASUS Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download and install the Touchpad drivers.

On laptops, sometimes your TouchPad is disabled for no apparent reason. To reactivate it, first try restarting your PC. If there's no good change just try:

You shouldn't need to, however, if you're determined...

Follow all of the steps you would to change your cursor. However, instead of changing your cursor, tab over to 'Device Settings' and click on the name of your touchpad in the list. Then click Disable. Follow any confirmation windows (eg. Do you really want to disable your touchpad??)... and presto, your touchpad is now 'permanently' disabled (it can be re-enabled by going to that menu again and clicking 'Enable')

How to Disable aMouse Pad on an Asus Notebook

Touchpads are fairly standard equipment on laptops these days, in lieu of theolder "eraser-head" track buttons. Because laptops are typically notused in locations that are conducive to using a full- mouse, touchpads areused instead to allow the user to move the mouse pointer with a finger.Occasionally however, you may find yourself wanting to disable thetouchpad---perhaps while you are typing so that accidentally brushing thetouchpad does not reposition the typing cursor. Somewhat ironically, in orderto disable an ASUS laptop's touchpad, you first need to fully enable thetouchpad's software by installing the correct drivers onto your computer.

1. Open yourpreferred Web browser and navigate to the ASUS driver download page. 2. Select theproduct, series and model of your laptop using the drop-down menus on the ASUSwebsite and click the "Search" button. 3. Select your laptop's operating system andexpand the "Touchpad" category in the new page. 4. Click the"Global" option. This will bring up a "Download" dialog boxon your screen. Save the driver install file to your hard drive. Launch it whenthe file has finished downloading. 5. Follow theinstructions to begin the automated driver installation program. You may needto restart your computer to complete the installation.Disabling theTouchpad
1. Click the "Start" button and launchthe control panel from the start menu.
2.Click"Mouse" in the control panel window to open a new dialog box. 3. Click the "Device Settings" tab. 4. Select thetouchpad in the list of installed devices and click the "Disable"button. This will disable the touchpad.

To turn off the touchpad when an external mouse or other pointing device is present, you can goto the Control Panel and double click the Mouse properties icon.

Click the Device Select tab and check "Disable Touch Pad when USB Pointing Device is present." The cursor will no longer move via the touchpad.

Alternatively, you can permanently disable the touchpad of your laptop by clicking the "Disable Device" in the Touch Pad setting. Advanced users can disable the touchpad from the BIOS setup [press F2 when the computer is booting to enter BIOS settings]

Unfortunately, there are no keyboard shortcuts to enable/disable Touchpad movement or tapping. You can however drag the Mouse icon from the control panel to your Quick launch bar for quick access.

If that sounds too much effort, you may consider adjusting the sensitivity of the touchpad. This can be accessed from the Touch Pad tab of our mouse properties. Choose a low setting.

Did you try the FN key and F9...
That is what they say to disable your touchpad

You have a function key which is called Fn That key allows you to use the functions on the F series keys

So Fn then F9 should do the trick

You may have inadvertently disabled the touchpad from within the operating system.
If the operating system is Windows get a USB mouse and plug it in, go to the control panel and look for mouse properties, see if its disabled.
If its not then the drivers for the touchpad could be corrupt.
All you need to do is go to Asus's support website, enter the model number, download and reinstall the touchpad drivers.

First, try to adjust the sensitivity for the touchpad in the control panel for the mouse. If this doesn't work you can just plug in an external mouse to disable the touchpad. If it still jumps, read the following.

This will involve opening the top part of the laptop. Usually there is a plastic piece holding down the keyboard. Directly above the keyboard. Use a flat head screwdriver to remove it.

Once you see the keyboard, then remove it. Just below that is the connection to the touchpad, undo it and just tape it to an area underneath the touchpad.
