Ok i know a way with windows xp , it may work with vista , just after you turn the computer on press F8 it should come up with the option to start in safe mode , start the computer in safe mode , then if u get into vista , go to user accounts in control panel , and remove the passowrd or the user , at the start u press F8 before the logo screen starts , good luck, if that dosent work you will need to reinstal a operating system , if the laptop came with a restore disk use that , it will reinstall vista , and you can start fresh , just put ur system restore cd in , start laptop, boot from cd , and away u go ,

I forgot my password and i cant logon to my computer

Which Password? Bios Password? Hard Drive Password? Windows Welcome Screen User Logon Password?

Which Operating System? Windows XP? Windows Vista? Windows 7?

OK, if you are running Windows 7, Microsoft tightenedsecurity on it so you've got to have a password reset disk which 99% of thepeople who own laptops with windows 7 fail to do. It should be one of thefirst things you do when you buy the laptop. Otherwise, you're faced withreinstalling the Operating System or possibly doing a System Recovery.

If you're on Windows XP or Vista try this:

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on andimmediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Safe Modeoption. Select SAFE MODE and let the computer boot up. When it getsto the User Login screen it will show the Administrator userid and the useridfor which you forgot the password. Sign in as the Administrator (hopefullyyou didn't put a password on it and forgot it too). Once the desktopappears it will look different, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, but this is normal for safe mode.

Click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts
When the User Accounts screen opens, click on the userid for which you forgotthe password. Select the option to REMOVE PASSWORD.

Reboot your machine.

I have a acer aspire 5532 laptop that i bought at a flea market. when i got it home and turned it on, something called a security hard drive box popped up asking me for the password. i contacted the seller...

For recovering Windows logon Password safely, I tend to recommend program Windows Password Seeker. Not only support XP/Vista/2000/NT, but also compatible with windows 7, it works perfectly to recover Windows OS Passwords. I wrote it to a Usb memory card. Booting up and clearing my password in just 4 minutes. You can Search Windows Password Seeker or download it from: http://www.passwordseeker.com

I forgot my username password for a toshiba laptop running vista help please

Protocol questions - for more vivid mental image.
The logon screen, is it a 'classic logon' screen? IE do you get the option to enter a username and password or do you click an icon and then are prompted for a password?

Scenario 1
If not, you can use the logon 'panic button' = use Ctrl+Alt+Del trick {Ctrl+Alt+Del pressed twice} to make sure you get two fields to fill so that you log on as the Administrator. IE username = Administrator
password = {leave blank} Press enter and if you gain access, proceed to the Control panel or run | compmgmt.msc | local users and groups. From users, rightclick your account and then set password. Set the password, remember it, logoff and then logon with your credentials.

Scenario 2
Please take note this tip (if it works) is intended to regain a forgotten Vista Administrator password. It is not intended to illegally hack into a Vista system that’s not owned by you.

  1. Reboot the Windows Vista and boot up with Windows Vista installation DVD.
    vista-install-01.jpg
  2. While the Windows Vista installation interface pops up, click the Repair You Computer link at the bottom-left corner.
  3. Next, the System Recovery Options dialog box appears. There are few options but we want the Command Prompt option. Click on this option now.
  4. In the Vista Command Prompt, type mmc.exe and press the ENTER key to bring up the Microsoft Management Console.
  5. Click on the File menu, select Add / Remove Snap-in option, locate and select the Local Users and Groups on the left panel, and click Add button to add it to the right panel.
  6. Now, the Choose Target Machine dialog box pop up. Ignore this by clicking the Finish button
  7. Click OK button and return to the MMC window (the first window that showed when you entered mmc.exe). In the left panel, double-click Local Users and Group that was added in step 5. Click on User folder, locate and right-click the target Vista logon account whose password you need to set.
Guess you should know what to do now. Select the Set Password from the right-click menu to set a new password / reset old password.

Scenario 3
There is software out there than can do all the leg work for you like - NT & registry editor. Careful though. Can render your system useless if you don't know how to use them.

Power on password

Using a screwdriver, You'll be able to open a cover on the bottom of the laptop and disconnect the CMOS battery which will clear the power on password. Try to find the laptops Maintenance and Service guide online if you're unsure of how to do this. Google should find it for you.
