An engine needs compression, timing, an adequate spark and the right amount of fuel in order to start and run.

When attempting to diagnose trouble each one of those requirements must be checked in a fairly logical sequence and when all are present the engine will start. If the engine doesn't start and run then one or more of those requirements is absent.

A new spark plug correctly gapped wouldn't do any harm at all but as it fires using an ether spray it would indicate a lack of fuel is the problem.
The correct operation of the choke if it is a strangler type should be observable by looking down the carburettor bore.

Looking for help on repairing a yard blower

try replacing the spark plug with a new one
compression alters the resistance to spark across the gap so it may be shorting out under compression
I have known instances where a plug shows a good spark but when inverted into the head , the insulation moved down and shorted out the spark
the gap can be closed to less than .020" and see if that helps

My craftsman 25cc leaf blower wont start

pull the plug, plug into wire, touch head of plug to metal on engine. hold by rubber boot while touching pull starter, see if you get a spark across the plug gap, its small but you can see it. if no spark check switch. if plenty of spark clean fuel system and check primer

Choked and died while idling ,i try to start it again wouldnt start ,could itbe a timing belt ??

More likely it is a fuel problem. but could be a spark problem (timing belt has to do with spark) or least likely it could be the air intake. To check if you have the proper spark (coming due to a good timing belt) pull the number one spark plug and use a gapping tool (it's cheap tool but works good) to check the spark plug. If the spark plug has the correct gap then turn the key to watch if it sparks if it does't spark try a new plug if that doesn't spark you may need a timing belt. To check if it is the timing belt you do not really need to check the gap of the plug but if you already have the plug out and it is not the timing belt this information could be very useful. With more info I could probably narrow it down for you, post back if you like.

You mean start? Try putting proper gas/oil mix in it. Check for spark by pulling spark plug, ground metal case to engine metal and pull start cord. Look for spark in the plug's gap. If it sparks, you have a carburetor problem. Most likely gummed up with old gas. Needs to be removed and cleaned or replaced.

Homelite U2T608 edger/trimmer will not start. New plug gaped properly. Dropped carb, dissembled and cleaned out all ports. Fuel is flowing and is new. Motor wont even "cough." Suggestions?

Check the magneto for spark. Remove the plug and reinsert the wire and hold it against the engine as you pull the starter. You should get a nice, blue spark. If you don't see one, the magneto to flywheel air gap may need adjusting or the coil module is bad (rare). You basically need good compression, fresh fuel, good clean air intake, and a strong spark to get it to "pop." I realize you may know these things, but, most people are unaware of the .010"-014" air gap required between the magnets on the flywheel and the legs on the coil module. Disassembly is required to get to it and you take the same steps you would if you wanted to fix the pull rope. A standard business card has about the proper clearance needed between the aformementioned parts. Post back if needed. I am here to help.

CS-670 . Cleaned fuel tank , lines , carb. New

Check for blue, snappy spark at the plug (gapped at 0.020"). If weak or nothing, remove the flywheel cover to expose the ignition module. Check the module gap with a thin business card--turn the flywheel magnets under the module poles, insert the card into the gap, loosen the module screws, and allow the module to contact the magnets, then tighten the screws. Turn the flywheel somewhat to remove the card. Recheck for spark--if ok, try for engine start. If still no spark, remove the ignition switch wire from the module and retry for spark. If still nothing, replace the module. Install per the above instructions. Hope this helps!

My snow thrower wont start

Change the spark plug being sure to set the spark plug gap as recommended in the owner's manual. Then clean or change the air filter. Finally use new high test gasoline. good luck.
