Running a microwave empty causes the magnetron to draw excessive current. It will run hotter than normal, and cause the thermal cutout to open, and shut the oven down.

It's also possible that the main fuse has blown.

You could have burned something out on unit. Check fuse or contact GE. Look in manual for trouble shooting tips.

My microwave just stop running while trying to re heat . how im going to fix it. is their any reset button

in most cases the reason for microwaves shutting down without warning is the fuse. in some cases the fuse will fail at its own fault. to test the fault we would do a tollerence test on the unit. but the best way for you to test it is to replace the ceramic fuse with another of the same value. if the unit works then its a faulty fuse. if the unit blows the fuse then the unit has a fault in the power supply that needs to be repaired by a service tech.

best of luck

Unit was working than just shut down, the display went dead.

hello,

the solutionhas noting to do with reset button or code

what the problem is from the element (heat provider)it is always is silver colour all it means is there is disconnection from it or it is bad.

what you need to do to fix up your oven is to unscrew it and then trace down the wire to the heater (element) but if you did not see any sign of disconnection then you will have to make a change of the element it mean bad .

thank you and thanks for using fixya.

Microwave not heating, but does count down minutes.

Press clear/reset button and hold 5 seconds. If this doesn't work unplug unit or shut off breaker for 10 seconds.

The microwave stopped heating. Everything else is working fine.

Ok, concerning the heating issue. you will need to replace the Magnetron to restore the heating feature in this unit. this device is damaged.

Concerning the motor(circulation). If the motor is not working, this will damaged the Magnetron, due to poor circulation. i recommend replacing the motor asap.

In conclusion, you will need to replace the Magnetron and the circulation motor as well. replacing these two vital devices will fix your issues. the total cost for these parts are estimated at $87.90

I can home to find that the microwave was beeping as it does when it finishes cooking. I opened it and it was empty so I fear that my 89 year old mother was running it for some reason and it was empty. ...

No health or safety issues there at all. Just lucky it didn't overheat and damage the magnetron tube (Safety wise - the unit has several heat sensitive thermal fuses that will shut the unit down if an overheat situation occurs)
. If the unit still heats and functions normally everything is just fine.

Microwave stopping working

check the fuse on the microwave. if its busted, something shorted out in the oven that tripps off your breaker. it could be your inverter.

Runs but wont heat up

Probably magnatron is bad. Best test is to substitute a known good one. There are others but you are in the 4000 volt area of the unit.
