There are a couple ways to go here. I'll give you the procedures step by step. If you want clarification on anything, just ask. If I make an assumption that is wrong, stop me and let me know. The more you know, the easier this will be for both of us.
First I'd like to double check on MisterSony's diagnosis. Refresh rates that are too high end up as a black screen on many LCD models.
This is my first assumption, the display settings are currently for both monitors. Your original screen is still functioning.
If so,
Get back to me with the results. If it was already set at 60Hz. We go to the next step.

meens your display resolution is set to high. boot into safe mode. right click on blank area of the desktop and choose properties. then settings, now set the resolution to its lowest setting and apply it. click ok. now reboot. most flat panel tv's can only go as high as 1366 x 768
