I have a Dell Latitude D610. At home, myy wi-fi signal typically runs at 48-54 Mbps and signal strength reads as "very good". When I drop my notebook into a D-family docking station (plugged in peripherals = monitor, keyboard, blackberry), my wi-fi signal drops to 34 Mbps and signal strength reads as "low". I have disabled the ethernet internet connection. I assume the docking station is providing interference with the radio frequency of my wi-fi card. Is there anything I can do to fix the situation so that I can use my laptop in the docking station and have my wi-fi signal at peak capacity? Laura

Dell latitude D610 continues to turn over on start up

You can try tapping F12 as soon as it starts, this should bring up the boot menu, try booting to the hard drive.

If it works, then the BIOS might have doped the HDD from the boot menu, your manual is a joke, and tells noting of the BIOS, so you would have to look through it and find boot order or first boot.

If nothing works, you need to take it to someone who can either go through the BIOS, and it this doesn't work they can extract the windows serial key and reinstall the operating system after cleaning the HDD the correct way, and that is not formatting it but erasing it.

Where is the "wireless" on/off

First make sure that wireless card is present in your system and it is enabled( Check the BIOS settings).
If so, you can enable/ disable wireless by pressing Fn+F2 keys, and the wi-fi light on the right hand side will turn on.

Let me know if any clarification is needed. Hope this helps!

Have a dell d610. its not picking up the wireless modem in house. worked yesterday. prompting me for wireless switch. and the light/activity/wi-fi light is not on. is there a switch or function key i need...

Your Dell has the ability to turn the wifi on and off using the Fn key (lower left on your keyboard) and (If I remember correctly) the F2 key--anyway, it's the function key that has a little picture of a "radio antenna" on it. Hold down the Fn key and then press that other key. The wireless network should then be active.

The range of your Wi-Fi network will depend on the layout of your house. In an ideal environment, such as the wide-open expanse of a parking lot, a Wi-Fi network's theoretical range can exceed 500 feet. Inside the typical home, however, expect anywhere from 75 to 150 feet, depending on the layout and the amount and density of obstacles. In our repeater-equipped setup, we were able to achieve close to 100 percent signal strength in a distant corner of the house where the signal had been either very weak or nonexistent. We tested the signal strength using Buffalo's included AirStation Client Manager software, which we installed on our notebook. The handy applet, which takes control of your notebook's Wi-Fi radio, displays such pertinent information as the name of your network, its IP and MAC addresses, and, of course, the signal strength. If necessary, you can extend your signal strength even further by adding repeaters. The WDS protocol allows you to link six repeaters to a central router. Just keep in mind that each time you add a device, you cut your maximum bandwidth in half. An extended 802.11g network consisting of a router and a repeater will have a maximum speed of 27Mbps, for instance. The same Wi-Fi network with a router and two repeaters will top out at 13.5Mbps.
