Try a reset to this TV and check. There are two types of reset to TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Service mode entry, adjust and exit procedure to many popular brand TVs are given. Never forget to exit the service mode, after all adjustments have been done.

SOURCE: cannot fill screen with normal picture size setting

assuming you all have comcast and using an hdmi cable
first access menu (hit it twice) and go to set picture format, choose passthrough....or in your case auto hdmi

then turn box off, press guide and info on the front of the box, proceed through the setup, advanced is more in depth..lol...

select 1080, 720, and then either the standard or widescreen 480s to your liking.....

voila....

now check your tv settings to accommodate

SOURCE: Aspect ratio problems on Samsung LN-S2651D Flat Panel TV

The aspect ratio (zoom) button on the cable remote had been changed. On Brighthouse the # button toggles through the zoom settings. It's not a tv issue, it's a cable fix.

How to a get a full screen on a Hisense H5 smart TV

Full screen is a function of the program you're watching. Some programs will never fill the screen completely because of the way the program was originally formatted. Example: You watch an older movie that was formatted for 4:3 aspect ratio. It is impossible to watch the movie full screen in it's native mode. It makes no difference if you're watching the program off a DVD or a cable channel. You can rty filling the screen with the stretch and zoom functioms on the TV, but you will have to live with a distorted picture or loose a lot of the program picture because zoom cuts off a lot.

Unable to see all the writing on screen. some of it is missing on right and left sides. I can change screen size but it does not bring full text into view. Philips 32" flat screen. Instructions...

Well I'll take a stab at this.
1) how many size selections do you have?
Many of the new flat panels have.
a) Normal
b) stretched
c) 3x4
d) 16x9
e) overscan
The issue you describe is that you are watching a 3x4 source/picture and your TV size is either in the 'Over scanned' position or the other possibility is that your TV has a Zoom function and it's zoomed in too far. Just a thought!

Picture won't change sizes

If you are using a cable box, the settings you want are in the setting menu under "format" or "display" . Typically the choices are Normal or stretch, Select stretch.
The "small picture is how the old NTSC format displays in "normal mode" on a High definition set.
While you are in the settings menu, you might want to verify that the box is set to output at least 720P if not 1080i.

4.14.1 Understanding Viewing Features
Your LCD HDTV features four viewing modes and Picture-In-Picture (PIP)/Picture-by-Picture (POP) mode.
You can switch viewing modes using the remote control.
4.14.2 Viewing Modes
Normal Mode
The original 4:3 aspect ratio (1.33:1 source) is preserved, so black bars are
added to the left and right of the display image. Standard TV broadcasts are
displayed with a 4:3 Aspect Ratio. Movies in 4:3 Aspect Ratio may be referred
to as pan-and-scan or full frame. These movies were originally filmed in 16:9
(widescreen), and then modified to fit a traditional TV screen (4:3).
Wide Mode
When watching a standard broadcast or full-frame movie in this mode,
the display image is stretched proportionately to fill the TV screen.
When watching a widescreen (1.78:1 source) program or movie, the
display image fills the TV screen. If you are watching a widescreen
(1.85:1 or 2.35:1 source) program or movie, there will still be black
bars at the top and bottom.
Zoom Mode
When watching a widescreen (1.78:1, 1.85:1, or 2.35:1 source)
program or movie, the display image is zoomed proportionally to fill the
width of the screen. The top and bottom are cut off to remove most of
the source material’s black bars. This mode is good for programs or
movies with sub-titles.
Panoramic Mode
When watching a standard broadcast or full frame movie in this mode,
the 4:3 Aspect Ratio (1.33:1 source) display image is stretched
horizontally on the left and right sides to fill the TV screen. The center
of the image is not stretched.

Note: Viewing modes are saved based on input. For example, you lasted watched a DVD in widescreen
mode and then watched TV in standard mode. When you switch back to DVD input, the viewing mode
will return to widescreen.

Vertical Stretch

You need to adjust "vertical height" in the service program. You need to put the set in "service mode" to do this adjustment. If you google "enter service mode RCA F32665" you should find the procedure. It will be listed in abbreviated letters such as VERT SIZE or VERT HT. Follow the instructions for entering service mode and saving the data closely!! The data you change will be listed as a number between 1 and 63. The number will only need to reduced by a small amount and you can still see the picture behind the data and watch it shrink as you adjust the number down.Always burn the new number to memory (if required) before exiting service mode. Good luck

Sylvania 27 inch stereo flat screen tv

This problem sounds like a short inside the picture tube itself unless a driver transistor failed that drives the red gun in the CRT. You may have to take it to an authorized repair facility if the picture tube is still in warranty.
