You can go to file explorer or file manager and click on the drive letter of your CD/DVD which is usually like a Drive D:, E: or later drive letter.

Once you click on the right driver letter in file explorer it's going to try to read it. It will then open up the files on the CD/DVD or try to start the application you may have installed for reading a CD/DVD.

If you don't have an application installed to view the CD/DVD it may give you a message that "Windows could not find a suitable application to open your file.." but it will ask to pick which application you'd like to try and open the CD/DVD with. Something like media player should show in the list if you have it installed.

Can I use my other computer's w10 cd (which has a key) to bring life back to my crashed laptop?

Re: *********** for upgrade
Why you can find your *********** after upgrading to Windows 10

As for using the CD from the other computer, it depends on the CD. If it is a generic Retail or OEM cd it should be no problem, if the manufacturer has done heavy modification, maybe a problem.

How to get rid of windows 10 off my new computer and replace with windows which has never been installed on this computer

Right now you would need to install either Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. Neither is as good as 10, and will not be supported for much longer. Microsoft is also currently pushing Windows 10 upgrades to users, so you may be either encouraged or eventually forced to upgrade.

If you still want to install a different version you MUST have a valid install CD/DVD and product key. Put the CD in the drive, start the computer and press any key when prompted to ("Press any key to boot from CD or DVD"). The install will wipe out any previous version of Windows (choose format drive) AND any data or other programs you have on the computer.

Hi,

The issue can be caused by the damaged system files or hardware device.

I suggest trying the following method to troubleshoot the issue:

Startup Repair from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)
----------------------------------------
1. Insert the Windows Vista installation disc into the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD ...". appears.
3. Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, choose the drive of your Windows installation and click Next.
6. At the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click on Repair your computer.
7. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
8. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Startup Repair.

Please continue with the following instructions if the above suggestion does not help:

1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD ..." appears.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, and a keyboard or another input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. (Click the operating system that you want to repair), and then click Next.
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
7. Type "chkdsk /F C:" (without quotation marks) and click Enter.
8. Restart the computer and have a test.

If the issue still exits, please move to the below steps:

In-place Upgrade Installation
-----------------------------------------
Technically, you won't lose any data to take an In-place Upgrade Installation. In order to avoid any unexpected problem, I suggest you backup your data before taking In-place Upgrade Installation.

1. Start the computer by using the current Operating System.
2. Insert the Windows Vista DVD in the computer's DVD drive.
3. Use one of the following procedures, as appropriate:
• If Windows automatically detects the DVD, the Install now screen appears.
Click Install now.
• If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, type (Drive: )\setup.exe in the Start Search box, and then clickEnter.
Note: (Drive: ) is the drive letter of the computer's DVD drive.
b. Click Install now.
4. When you reach the "Which type of installation do you want?" screen, click Upgrade to upgrade the current operating system to Windows Vista.

Installing and reinstalling Windows

If both of the above two methods do not work on your issue, please contact the manufacturer to check the hardware.

Regards,
Thulasiramki.
