SOURCE: Amana French Door Refrigerator "on" but no cooling; freezer still works

There are 2 possible problems. One is the defrost cycle is not working properly this is usually indicated by a large amount of frost on the back freezer panel. If so, the circuit will have to be repaired and the evaperator thawed to remove the ice build up. The other is the fresh food damper is not working properly this is behind the "lump" in the back of the fridge compartment above the top shelf, remove the louver panel to see if it is open or closed. closed will be warm open should be cold. The water dispenser reservoir is probably frozen due to poor air circulation.

SOURCE: Sears Kenmore 53652300, doesn't cool

This usually indicates that the compressor is working too hard and drawing too much current. The click that you hear is a safety shut-off. Possible causes of this are numerous and usually require having a professional come in to fix the issue, it can range anywhere from a faulty compressor to a bad start relay.

There is in most cases a temporary fix, it is called a hard start relay/capacitor. It is usually available from an appliance parts retailer for around $15 to $20. Installation instructions are included, just be sure to unplug your refrigerator first and make sure that someone following you can repair from where you left off. This relay assembly can normally get you up and running but it should not be used as a permanent fix. This will not correct for a refrigerant leak in the system.

Check your refrigerator owners manual before making any repairs or modifications to your refrigerator, there may be an extended warranty on the sealed system and compressor.

SOURCE: Refrigerator Compressor does not start

Is your freezer below your frig, like a drawer. If so does it still freeze the food. if this fact is true, then listen with the freezer drawer open to hear if the freezer fan is running. If it is running and your freezer is working then it could possibly be that fan that is the problem. This fan circulates the chilled air from the evaporator coil thru the freezer and the refrigerator. This problem is very hard to diagnose as the fan still spins but not fast enough to circulate the chilled air thru the freezer and frig. The minimum cost is around $300.00 if a service company does it. But if you can do it then you can possibly get the fan motor for around $80.00. This repair is very labor intensive as the access to the electrical connection is at the extreme rear of the freezer compartment.

Are both fans running, in freezer and in back? Remove rear panel on back of unit. Check to see if noise is coming from compressor area. If it is you either have a bad start device or a bad compressor. Use your model number to look up and order a new start device here, the cheaper of the two. est. cost at $25-45

My freezer and refridgerator is not freezing or cooling any longer. 2 days ago it was working then all of a sudden temps went to 90* and all our food was ruined. What could be the problem?

A bad start relay on the compressor.
A bad fan motor on the compressor.
A bad compressor.
A bad freezer fan motor.
A bad defrost timer.
A bad thermostat.
A refrigerant leak in the system.
A bad defrost heater or thermostat.
Check each of these and report back.

Yes this would be the compressor and they run with a technician roughly 600 dollars. There are two things that will cause a Refrigerator not to cool or freeze, the coils being clogged or the compressor is shot. In this case the compressor is gone. Better to just get a new frig

Constantly running

If the thermistor sensor for the temperature control is going out that could cause the compressor the think it needs to keep running to cool the unit. The fan near the compressor should run only when the compressor runs. If the fan is running and the compressor isn't then you likely have a compressor start device problem or the overload is tripping from high heat, etc. That would make the compressor run (or try to) every minute or two if not just run continuously. Make sure all the coils under the unit are clean of fuzzy's and hair, etc. by doing a good vac. clean on them also. The compressor can be slightly warm to the touch but shouldn't be so hot that it is hard to keep you r hands on it for long. If it's around 130 degrees F, then it may be the start device problem and is in an overheat condition.
