Dehumidifier's control By percent room Realative Humidity Or better known as rH% , if your not sure your unit is working or even cycling properly , purchase a seperate rH meter(there not expensive) and place it in same room someplace , Normal %rH for a homes room is 70%rH set your units setting for a target of that number and use the seperate meter to verify thats what it is (takes 24 hrs) , if Meter is consistent Higher or lower a reading that whats set on unit then yes you might have a problem with your unit

Why compressor comes on for a second then shuts off

Good Morning Friend,

I understand that the compressor on your Frigidaire dehumidifier, model# FAD504TDD, comes on for a second and then shuts off. First, make sure that when you are first turning your dehumidifier on that you put it in continuous mode. After about 3 days of continuous mode, set your appliance to the humidity level you would like. Secondly, the "Compressor" circuit has an automatic 3 minute time delayed start if the unit is turned off and on quickly. This prevents overheating of the compressor and possible circuit breaker tripping. Thirdly, make sure the tank is fitted correctly otherwise your dehumidifier will not turn on. Lastly, make sure your dehumidifier has sufficient clearance to operate. There should be a minimum of 12 inches clearance around your dehumidifier. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your dehumidifier status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

50 pint Frigidaire dehumidifier trips a circuit breaker

Those units are essentially air conditioners and they can use a lot of electric current when they start. Make sure it is on its own circuit and the circuit has the correct breaker on it for the load.

I have two of these dehumidifiers. They won't go on automatically. I don't understand the settings. One of them won't stay on at all. It runs and then shuts off.

As per your problem, that the dehumidifier shuts offautomatically - If yourdehumidifier froze, the compressor will shut off automatically. Allow the iceto melt before emptying the tank and restart the dehumidifier. Hope this will help you. Good Luck.

Is there any way to run automatically. . . where when it reaches humid per cent it shuts off? Can you rig to run for x hrs. per day and then shut off and restart the next day?

Norman, once the unit reaches the extraction level you have it set for, the unit will turn OFF automatically. However, depending on the humidity level in your home, it may take several cycles of running and emptying the bucket until it reached. After that, it should turn OFF, once the level is reached. Then when the humidity level rises above the setting it's on, it will start up again.

Since your unit is a Manually Controlled unit, there's no safe way to "rig' it to run on with a timer. The plug in wall timers are not rated high enough to handle the load of the dehumidifiers operation. Trying to use one, would fry the timer and possibly the dehumidifier.

If you want all the features you mentioned, you will need to purchase a new electronically controlled dehumidifier.

Our dehumidifier turns on for only a few seconds, then shuts off.

Wendy, it's probably because the humidity level on the unit is set higher than the humidity level in the house. Keep in mind, the humidity level you set the control to, is not the amount extracted from the air. It's the level you want it to maintain. The higher the percentage level, the more humidity stays in the house. The lower the percentage level, the more humidity it removes, until the lower humidity level is reached. Then the humidifier will automatically shut OFF and/or the unit shuts OFF, because the bucket is full. Once it's emptied and replaced, if the unit needs to continue to extract humidity, it will start running again.

Hope this helped you solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Model 501D(had the wrong model number before) When I turn the unit on where the humidity is set there is a code CO 01. Unable to find my manual. the unit starts then turns off.

Hello,

I will advice you check the water bucket to see if it is full and empty the bucket in a sink if needed. GE dehumidifiers have a safety feature that shuts down the device when the water in the bucket reaches a certain level.
Install the bucket correctly in the unit by hooking the slots on the bucket on the posts on the back of the device. The dehumidifier will not run if the bucket is not properly setup in the device.
Take care.

I have an Aprilaire 1750 installed inline with my upstairs central air system in the attic. The unit's ducting appears to be installed as indicated in the installation manual, but when the unit is running...

Your dehumidifier is likely working correctly. When operating and removing moisture, a dehumidifier will supply warm/hot air to your house. Your dehumidifier moves less air than your A/C, so your supply ductwork in your house is oversized for the dehumidifier. This will lead to uneven feeding of your supply duct branches with just the dehumidifier operating.

Since your dehumidifier is installed in the attic, make sure that the ducting connected to it is well insulated. Also make sure that your dehumidifier cabinet is insulated. These actions will help prevent heat gain from the hot air in your attic.

Is your dehumidifier bringing in fresh air from outside? If the outside air is hot and humid, the dehumidifier will supply warmer air to your home.

Some people run their A/C fans continuously to help with the air distribution, but this is a bad idea since it increases energy usage considerably.

Dehumidifier keeps shutting itself off.

For some reason it is overheating and shutting itself off. There is a law that all electronics are supposed to have a point to where it automatically shuts off if it gets too hot from a malfunction or loose connection in the circuit board. It is to protect the consumer. You either need to take it to a tech or get rid of it. Get a new one.
