20 Most Recent Amana D545M Dehumidifier Questions & Answers

Looking at the time of your post I would not expect it to collect much, during the winter things are dry because of the heating. This is a guess as I have no clue as to where you live.

Your description indicates a loss of refrigerant in the dehumidifier. The metal heat exchanger above the water collector should become cold when the compressor is running - if it does not, your dehumidifier likely has lost it's refrigerant charge. You will have to take it to a certified (refrigerant handling) technician to repair. It may make more sense to replace with a new dehumidifier.Check the CPSC website for dehumidifier recalls. they will have details of the brands/models/serial numbers of recalled units.

First, make sure that there's power to the unit. Has a circuit breaker in the circuit breaker panel been tripped? If so, unplug the unit before resetting the breaker. Also, check the receptacle or extension cord that you're using to power the unit, as it may be damaged.

If you have power to the unit, it may be that some critter or insects have gotten into the unit and shouted it out. In which case, you're lucky that it didn't start a fire. It's not a good idea to leave the dehumidifier running unattended for a week or more.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

First, anytime you remove the bucket, you should turn the unit OFF, before you remove it.
The unit may not be turning OFF when the bucket is full due to a fault Float Valve near the top of the interior of the bucket. It may be stuck in the DOWN position, if you model is so equipped. Jiggle the arm of the float valve to see if it moves freely and is not stick.

As far as the bucket safety removal switch is concerned, you may can find it at the following link.

Norman, once the unit reaches the extraction level you have it set for, the unit will turn OFF automatically. However, depending on the humidity level in your home, it may take several cycles of running and emptying the bucket until it reached. After that, it should turn OFF, once the level is reached. Then when the humidity level rises above the setting it's on, it will start up again.

Since your unit is a Manually Controlled unit, there's no safe way to "rig' it to run on with a timer. The plug in wall timers are not rated high enough to handle the load of the dehumidifiers operation. Trying to use one, would fry the timer and possibly the dehumidifier.

If you want all the features you mentioned, you will need to purchase a new electronically controlled dehumidifier.

Turn the unit OFF and unplug it. Remove the water collection bucket. Look inside to see if there is a float valve device near the top of the tank.If there is, it's stuck in the UP position. Jiggle it, to make it return to the DOWN position. Once it goes down, reinsert it into the bucket holder.

If your unit does not have a Float Valve, when you reinsert it back into it's holder, it has to trigger the bucket removal safety switch. To make sure it does that, insert "squarely" in the bucket holder making sure that it's square from top to bottom. The bottom of the tank should not tilt downward, if it is inserted properly.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

You may have the humidity level set to high. Usually anything above 50%, will show little results, unless your house is flooded.. Turn the humidity setting to the lowest level that your humidifier has
and give that a try.

The fan runs a lot, because it's designed to almost constantly move the air around. That way, if the humidity level rises above the setting on the dehumidifier, it can sense it and the compressor will turn ON.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Assuming that the unit is plugged in to an outlet that has power, press the ON button and a green light should come ON. That will indicate the unit is getting power and is ready to function. If however, you have the humidity level set to high and it's equal to or higher than the humidity level in your home, the unit's compressor and fan will not turn ON and run. Keep in mind, the humidity level, whether it's and LCD readout screen or just a minimum and high setting, that's not the amount of humidity that the unit will remove. It's what it will maintain. So, setting it as low as possible, should cause the unit to start functioning.

If it doesn't start, check the water collection bucket, to be sure that it's installed properly and is making contact with the safety trigger switch. If it's not making contact, the unit will not turn ON.

Hope this info helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.
