How to hook these to each other. I'm not getting anywhere.

You should be able to just use a hdmi cable. What are you hooking up to?

My sound bar itb382b switches sources on its own. Any idea why it won't stay on source we choose?

if you are using a remote that is the same or similar to the brand name of your sound bar then particular buttons my trigger your sound bar to change devices for example when you change the channel on your TV with your TV remote it might trigger your sound bar to change as well. this is common for infrared receivers

The source is your issue. The amplifier or TV itself. Try another TV plugged into the amp or some other sound source like a iPod, etc, to test if TV or amp. This is your next step and should show you the proble!m.
