If you worked during the year, you would normally receive a W-2. If you have miscellaneous income (other than employment), you will get a 1099. The IRS has deadlines for companies to comply with sending out these notifications to you. If you feel that you should receive one or the other and have not, contact the company directly.
Supposedly, tax refunds (if there are no problems with the tax return) will be sent by the IRS two to six weeks after the filing date.
I think anyone who says anything about when 2014 refunds will be sent out really does not know what they are talking about. If your return is uncomplicated, and you don't owe obamacare tax you will probably get your refund about when you have in the past. Remember don't file before Feb 1st. Jan 30 is the deadline for employers and other payers to send out W2's and 1099's. So the IRS doesn't have this info before February.
No. Nothing has change in terms of the taxpayer's perceptions of how the IRS processes returns. It's still pretty much a first-in, first out system. Those who send in their returns earliest, get their refunds (or bills, or audit letters) sooner than those who send them in later. The due date is still April 15th.
This is simple to look up at the IRS.gov website. Look for "Where is my refund?" and have the information requested to identify your return from the others. Occasionally, you will need to call the IRS - do so in the morning of a weekday, and be prepared for a while on hold.
