Typically most handheld radios will talk line-of-sight up to two miles. Obstacles such as buildings, trees, walls, and terrain will reduce the range. Here is a link to the user guide: http://www.uniden.com/content/ebiz/uniden/resources/ownersmanuals/TR622-2om.pdf

Best regards.

SOURCE: Uniden GMR-1035 2-way radion, with advertised 10 mile range

The range estimates are inflated by every manufacturer I am familiar with.
Even with line-of-sight transmission, I have found none that meet the claimed distance under common circumstances.

If you have a friend who is a radio amatuer, you might let him crack the case on one to see if there are any adjustments that could be improved; an 'old dog' would be able to locate the right area in which to look and perhaps tweak something to improve either transmitted power (he should have an instrument that would monitor it for adujstment if not for actual measurement) or improve receiver sensitivity.

The factory is only concerned with function and cost, not performance.

That the Motorola meets its stated range doesn't surprise me; they were long one of the most ethical companies around.
I'm not sure of their honesty today since profit (or even survival) has become more important.

I just purchased a uniden solara dsc.I HOOKED IT UP AND THE NOAA WORKS BUT I TRIED TALKING AND NOTHING HAPPENED.(I have a tractor with a radio and neither of us could hear each other).

The Uniden Solara is a MARINE RADIO not a CB. Marine (boat) radios operate in the VHF-Hi range and CB is in the VHF-Lo range. You also need a license to operate a marine radio, or you can identify yourself with the name of your boat but you MUST be in the water.

I had a uniden oceanus installed and when I click the talk button it changes the channel on my stereo. Help!

Try moving your antennas further apart. If they are already a couple feet apart, mount the Uniden in another location away from the stereo if possible. You might check with a radio shop about a filter. Your Uniden operates in the 150MHz range and the stereo receives in the 88-107MHz range. Good Luck.

Uniden bc898 extend

No, it is not possible to restore these frequencies, The only services that should be in this range (at least in the USA) are radio-control for model airplanes and broadcast FM radio.

Two way radio cross model compatbility

Hi,

Normally yes just as long as the frequency assignment to each channels are the same and no security/locking (such as (CTSS) is in place.

You have to check if the frequency settings of the Motorola matches those of the uniden.

Good luck and kind regards.
