Why does my home theatre system keep switching off

We just purchased a surround sound theatre system. Works fine for hours, then just switches off. Turn it back on via remote and it works fine for another few hours. Any ideas, or simply a fault??

SOURCE: Home theatre but TV without audio outlet

I would suggest that you smash
Philips HTS w/a hammer!
I had better sound from TV alone! Only 2 speakers put out sound from TV. Recordings from DVR can not be heard very well w/all volumes at max. System sucks! You get what you pay for! $2500 LCD TV sounds worse w/Philips HTS than my son's $300 TV! ALL cables hooked up as instucted!!!!

SOURCE: surround sound ok whilst playing dvd but not working for tv

On your Sagem TV you should have two RCA ouputs (red and white connection usually marked ouput) ) Connect these to the input on the surround system using the interlink cable.

You should then be able to hear the sound from the TV by changing the SOURCE on the home cinema remote.

Better still if you have a digital out on your TV use that instead.

SOURCE: no sound from back surround speakers

I resolved the problem by going in the dec mode (page 49 of manuel) and changing the setting to Pro Logic. That did the trick. Good Luck all.

Surround system did not come with manual

You did not indicate the model of your home theatre system. The Philips websites can be a source of information including the Quick Start Guide and User Manual.

For the Philips Blu-ray Home Theatre Sysytem see here.

If this not your model try searching the site. You may also switch to your country of purchase in the top right corner of the website.

If you require further help, please reply with your model information.

How to create surround effect on cds/dvds which are not recorded on surround technology on home theatre dav dz 777

There is no way to do this in a controlled manner without re-mastering the disc, an unrealistic option.

However, there is a very simple way to extract the out-of-phase portion of a stereo recording, which can yield a quasi-surround sound effect.

To get this effect, connect an additional rear speaker to the positive ( + ) connection of the right speaker output and the negative ( - ) connection of the left speaker output.

Please keep in mind that this only works with a stereophonic (not mono) source and is fairly subtle.

Make sure the speaker you use is at least 8 ohms.

This is an old trick that pre-dates surround sound and works with music CD's too.

This set-up will probably degrade the sound of a true Surround-Sound recording so consider wiring a simple switch to disconnect the additional rear speaker when not in use.

Hope this helps.

I can't get surround sound from my theatre system

Read your manual , there is a level setting for each channel as well as a test function. Also remember most media on pro-logic mode dont have to loud sound from the rear speakers. Only a forced mono mode may give you louder sound at the rear. Regards PSP

No surround sound through tv

May be you have to set the Pro-logic option soundfield, this will matrix a 5.1 surround sound effect, unless of course you are sending a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio signal from your TV broadcast into the Home theatre system, also have to check the TV audio output to send audio output to a Home theatre system in other than 2 channel stereo.

I have no surround sound when watching normal T.V

Hi there, in order to listen to t.v you need to purchase an optical cable and plug this in the optical out of the tv to the optical in on the blue ray then select D.IN.1 on the blue ray and press mode on the remote until it says matrix . This will allow you to listen to the t.v through all speakers. hope this helps. Also remember to take the rubber protectors off the ends of the optical cable, a lot of people forget this :)

Samsung 5-Disc 1200-Watt Home Theater Surround Sound System My Home Theatre System is keeps shutting down by its self. before it shuts down the screen says protection mode and then shuts down. i have...

If the unit shuts down almost immediately without sound, you have an electronic failure of the audio amplifier.

However if you must play the unit up above quiet background levels, you likely have a shorted speaker wire. With home theater systems, you have the luxury of trying different surround modes and speaker level settings. It's not unusual, for example, to have a loose wire strand going to the center speaker. In stereo, the system works fine. As soon as you switch to a surround mode, the amplifier senses the short and shuts down to protect itself.

Check those wires really close - I bet you'll find it there.
