I have an 8k generac generator which was running fine on Propane. Natural gas was run on our street so we hooked up into it. Since then, have not been able to start generator which was installed in 2006. Switched over last year in Feb 2013 & havent run since. Had Generac guy come to house and charged me $75.00 to tell me it wouldnt start. Mentioned that he may need to pull the head apart. I did brake the knob to convert from Propane to NG, so I took it apart and positioned the bigger orifice to be in the hole for NG . It was in that position when the Generac guy came over. Do I need to adjust the orifice so I can adjust the amount of fuel going in? I did spray starting fuel in generator and it started up but then stalled for lack of fuel. Any suggestions would be appreciated... Havent run since Feb,,,

Can you run it now from propane? If yes, then I would check the mechanism that converts it to NG.

throttle motor or governer board. or control board. your gas line could be to small. check the pressure while its cranking to see if it drops. watch the throttle to see if its moving while trying to crank the generator

Sounds like Generator mode switch should be "ON".

I have a natural gas generac 8kw it was running fine now it will not run found that out after the last power outage pull the plug looks good found that it will not spark at the plug

How old is it???? Does it have a read out that tells you what's wrong?????When is the last time you did a maintaince tune up on it???? Mine is fueled by propane and I changed the oil and plugs and it's been fine since....Sometimes it's the starter/ignition..I would do a complete tuneup first, then clear codes, then try starting it up manually....If that works put it back on auto..Good Luck

I have a toy hauler with a generac generator propane that wont start getting gas and spark but wont start model 04164-0

Check the comprssion, if you are sure you have a spark and gas. Is the fuel been delivered to the cylinders? Check the fuel solenoid for power, if power is present the demand gas regulator maybe gummed up. LP companies put a waxy lubricant in the gas and over time this can build up and harden in regulators. Also during crank observe the throttle is it going open as it should? if not suspect a control issue

I have a Generac 60kw generator. When it runs under load the generator surges, causing the lights to go up and down. The only way to stop this is if I reach into the generator and grab what I think is the...

You did not specify fuel. If running natural gas or propane, check the diameter of your feed line. You need at least 1/2 to 3/4 pipe diameter on the NG or propane. At 60KW I would guess at least 3/4 maybe larger for NG.

Water in oil

Natural gas and Propane engines do create moisture in the engine because these are cold gases. Therefore, when the engine is done running, the engine is hot and whatever gas is left will condensate and the moisture will drop to the bottom of the engine or oil pan. If this is using these gases then it is normal what you are seeing.

Start runs shutsdown

Typically caused by the fuel line (LP or Natural Gas) having a lot of air in it. Was your generator just installed, or was there any work done to the gas line of the building / generator? Consult local gas contractor / propane dealer / gas company for assistance in purging the fuel line.

A low battery can also cause this as well as the generator is not able to come up to starting speed quick enough. Try placing a stand alone battery charger on the generator and charge the battery. Also check the air filter as well.

OverCrank condition occurs when generator tries to start itself, or be manually started, and the starter spends too much time turning.

This can also indicate failure of the control board. This will need the expertise of generac technician. Call 1-888-GENERAC (1-888-436-3722)
