I would have to assume that a "Seagate external memory" is actually a Hard Drive. If so then you need to note what sort of Port or interface connection it is using. USB / Firewire or a direct connection cable of some sort. Note also the size (capacity) of the drive. You have probably loaded it up so full that it can't function.
The ideal situation would be to connect this drive to a computer and try and recover your files. You need to know what the drive was formatted for. Check the manual. Was it Fat32, NTFS, Mac OS Extended (Journaled) etc or some proprietary receiver format.
Does the dish receiver have the format (erase) utility on board. If the PC or Mac can see the drive on a USB port then you may be able to recover your movies.
If not... You can always format the drive or completely erase all data and set it up for use again. Or you can replace the drive with any number of different brands of drive, maybe even with larger capacity.
Most drives all use ATA or the newer SATA type connector internally. They are all interchangeable. So WD (WesternDigital) Hitachi, Seagate, etc will all work the same way. (All of them have to be able to plug in to different brands of computers. Mac or PC.
Without further info, it's hard to suggest anything else.
Good Luck
Trevor

Install the seagate manager on a different computer and decrypt the files there first then move it back to your computer using the basic copy/cut and paste.

have the files been deleted from the laptop? if not i would simply do a fresh format on the external and re migrate data. if they are then you can get software such as undelete or recover my files to restore your deleted data off of your laptop drive.

Can i save all the recorded programs on my dvr to a memory stick\

Hello Anon,
The answer is both yes and no. Please, do not go to walmart and buy a regular memory stick, as they are NOT compatible with Dish equipment.
It is entirely possible to transfer recordings from your DVR to a storage device, but it will need to be Dish Network issued. Call into Dish Network and inquire about an "external hard drive" as they are available for individual purchase.
The external hard drive will be $99, but will store all you data without an issue. I sell these devices on a daily basis, they are easy to use and reliable. Don't make the wrong choice and pass up the right decisions, you spent a lot of time getting those recordings together. Do you really want to part ways with them over $99?I sure wouldn't, and that's why I have used one personally.

My FujiFilm FinePix F47 fd has an error message that keeps saying 'Read Error' Help Please!!!

Hi,

The Read Error message displayed on the Camera when accessing the images which was not recorded correctly. This may also happen when the Memory Stick is corrupted to record or read the files. Please check if the message is displaying when accessing all the images. If it happens with all the images, then it may be an issue with the Camera or the Memory Stick.
To check if the issue is with the Memory Stick, try using a different Memory Stick and check if the message displays. This may also happen when an attempt was made to play back the image or the movie that was not recorded on this camera.
Try to wipe the contact area on the Memory Card with a soft, dry cloth. It may be necessary to format the Memory Card (Format option is available in the Setup 2 Menu of the Camera). If the message still appears, service may be required.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I can't pause or rewind my moveie

fktrejo,

When you try to use the DVR features, do you get an error message (024 or 311)? Have you unplugged your 625 receiver yet? If not, unplugged the receiver for about 10 seconds and plug back in. This will cause the receiver to reboot and acquire satellite signal. When the picture comes back on, try to pause. If it still doesn't work, we may need to replace the 625 receiver. I hope this helps.

Dish Network Vip722 does not recognize Seagate Showcase 1TB Drive

Same problem here, 722 not recognizing Seagate Showcase, been going on for months now. Per Seagate advice, I replaced Dish Network Receiver, no help, finally pressed Seagate after all their "troubleshooting" (which was no help at all) & they said to return Showcase & they'd send out another. Well they didn't send me back a Showcase, but (2) 1TB external computer hard drives. Now my 722 recognizes this computer drive is there, but: 1) you can't delete anything from it once it's on there, you hit "delete" & it doesn't delete, it's still there. Contacted Seagate about this & they said to delete programs you'd have to "wipe" the entire thing by unhooking it from your DVR, plugging it in to your computer, then "wiping" (erasing) the entire contents of the drive. WHAT???? I bought the drive to store some things I'd like to keep until I have time to watch them, store other things that I'd like to keep permanently. I don't want to "wipe" the contents of the entire drive. Good grief, that isn't how this was meant to work, you are supposed to be able to add/delete any program you wish, WITHOUT having to "wipe" the entire contents of the drive by hooking it to your computer. 2) you can't "resume" something after you've stopped watching it say, halfway thru, you have to manually find where you were by skipping or fast-forwarding, 3) if you pause program you're watching, it won't restart by hitting "play", you have to hit "skip fwd" & then it will skip forward & resume playing, 4) if you hit "stop" while watching a program, it just "freeze frames" & then won't take you back to your menu (like it should), it just freezes, & to "unfreeze" it you have to again hit "skip fwd", doesn't respond to anything else 5) sometimes it recognizes the programs you have recorded, other times it does not, thus your programs you've recorded you know are there, & the DVR is recognizing the unit itself, but unless you pull out the USB, wait, then plug back in the USB, it doesn't show you your recordings listing at all. I have no contacted Seagate & have now (I feel) exhausted all of my options. I am DONE, stick me with a fork. I asked Seagate why they didn't send me another Showcase, which is what they should have done, but they replied "we're not sending any more of those out right now". Hmmmm, sounds like I'm not the only one having this problem, huh? Why else would they not send me out a replacement of my original purchased product, but try to replace it with (2) computer drives instead, which is not what I purchased, I purchased a Seagate Showcase, because it is the ONLY drive recommended by Dish Network to be "the" drive exclusively meant to work w/Dish Network....ha ha. Somebody needs to go back to the drawing board here, Dish Network blames Seagate, Seagate blames Dish Network. I'm so done with all this that I don't even care any more who's problem it really is, or if the problem is a combination of both companies products perhaps, all I know is I'm finished. I am returning both of these computer drives, and am FINALLY supposed to be getting my money back. Hallelujah, Amen, I'm getting off of this roller coaster & won't be riding again anytime soon.

If you have a dish network system as listed in post a DVR 625 this is NOT possible, it will only work with VIP series Dish Network recivers. and they must be used on teh same model reciever such as Vip 722, tranfer to EXT HD then Watch on another 722!

I lost 60 hrs. of recording time in less than 24 hrs. on VIP 622

Remove all the External Storage devices, make sure that you Un-Plug them Completely including their Power. After Resting the Dish Receiver, Plug-In everything back on and try.

Can't open HDD drive

Hi
1. Start > Run > type in cmd then click OK to get a command prompt.
2. Type in chkdsk e: /r (replace e: with the drive letter of your external hard drive).

This won't do any harm, it will fix errors on the disk and try to recover data from bad sectors. It might not solve the problem but it's worth a try. Jyo
