SOURCE: Bobbin winder belt melted

Mine stopped working too. Gave up and wound bobbins by hand for a while until I broke down and took the machine apart -- an ordeal to figure out. I found that a pliable ring on the winder was completely disintegrated (gummy plastic-like stuff). An online search found this -- a bobbin "tire" which I THINK is the part I need: http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/bobbin-winder-tire-brother-x55238051.aspx. Hope this helps. --Also cleaned all the lint out when I had the machine opened up. They don't make it EASY!

SOURCE: Broken bobbin winder

For $29 at Hancock, Jo Ann's or Wal Mart you can get a thing called a Side Winder that will wind your bobbins without using the winder on your sewing machine. It has the additional advantage that you can wind while sewing. I use it even with machines that will wind bobbins.

THE BOBBIN WINDER DO NOT TURN TO SPOOL THE BOBBIN ON THE BERNINA MATIC ELECTRONIC

You will have to remove or tip back the lid to get at the bobbin winder, then use a synthetic oil to oil the shaft of the bobbin winder. Try not to get oil on the rubber wheel.
If this is an older machine (817,801,810 ) the wheel might have to be replaced as they get hard and will not grip the hand wheel that turns the bobbin winder

Bobbin winder not working

For ~$30, you can purchase a stand-alone bobbin winder (Sidewinder) that you can use to wind your bobbins. Saves wear-n-tear on your machine and you can wind bobbins without unthreading your machine. Just be sure to verify your bobbins are compatible with the Sidewinder.

I need replacement "bobbin winder complete" for the one I broke on my Thompson Mini-Walker PW 201. Does anyone know of a source for it? Also I need a manual for this machine.

If you are unable to replace the bobbin winder for your machine, you might check the local fabric stores for a stand-alone bobbin winder. Last time I checked, they cost around $20-25. They are nice to have because it saves wear and tear on your machine.

How do I fix my bobbin winder?

1. Take the top off.
2. Check to see if the bobbin winder has pressure as you move it back and forth. There should be. If not then check for a spring connected to the bobbin and reset it. There will be some kind of post to hook it to.
3. Place the bobbin winder in the "off" position and put the top lid back on.
4. Without putting the screws back in move the bobbin winder to the "on" position and to the "off" position.
5. There should be pressure either way you move the winder.
6. Loosen the hand wheel handle.
7 With the bobbin winder in the "go" position use your foot pedal to make sure it revolves.
8. Replace the top.

Bobbin winder screw broken, how to replace?

Until you can get your bobbin winder repaired, I'd suggest picking up a bobbin winder at your local fabric store. The last time I noticed, they cost about $30. Many sewists prefer to use this little accessory inside of wearing out the bobbin winder on their sewing machine. Also, if you more than one thread cone, you can rewind bobbins without unthreading your sewing machine.
