SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Computer reads sd card as right protected when unlocked

Check that the little tab on the card is all the way forward, toward the contacts or removed completely.
Try another card to see if you get the same condition.
Try the card in another computer or another card reader.

Remove Write Protection

Try this,
1.
Check out if the USB drive has a small swich for write protection. If its there try toggling the switch.

2.
Windows can all write protect flash drives. Check out this registry path,

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies.

You may find a key here on the right side by the name 'WriteProtect'. If it's not there this would not be the cause of problem. If it's there, make sure that the value is 0.

Please let me know if this does'nt work.

Remove protective material on right side - can't remove it

In all likely hood you just ruined the printer. Take it back to the store and tell them you bought it that way. ;)

Generally all protective objects for removal are colored neon, obviously labeled as such, or are simply tape. The protective material they indicated is most likely either a piece of tape across the print head or a plastic plug, which may or may not have even been there depending on if the printer was a return, it fell loose, etc. before you got it home or took it out of the box.
