NTSC and ATSC and that would depend if or which set will get the better signal. Also remember that off air is analog and the sets are now design for digital.

sounds like a bad optical block this affected a lot of sony tvs and is a expensive repair try contacting sony they might help.

My Sony Wega KDF-55XS955 55" was going on for 1-2 minutes then going black with no sound and after a few minutes would come back on. After reading all the posts and talking with a repair guy I replaced the bulb and that fixed the problem.

The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

If you haven't replaced the lamp, it is almost certainly time to change it. A weak lamp will cause the TV to play for a short time. As the old weak lamp heats up, it draws more current, and the reflector in the lamp, having become cloudy over time, converts the light into more heat rather than reflected it out into the set. Eventually the lamp draws too much current and the set turns it off, going into a restart cycle. Buy an original Sony lamp, as the aftermarket replacement lamps are known trouble makers.
