The proper way to do this would be to use the audio output from the TV, either analogue left and right or the optical port, and send it into an dedicated amplifier or AV receiver. You can then use the amplifier or receiver to power the external speakers. If you are using a dedicated amplifier with no volume control you will want to change the audio output setting on the TV to "variable out" as oppose to its current "fixed out"settings. You can find this in the TV menu, usually under the audio settings. This will allow you to use the current TV remote to adjust the audio volume coming out of the external speakers.

I have a set of speakers by JBL called "Creature" - the set has a large woofer and two small satellite speakers. The cord from the back of the central (woofer) unit plugs right into the "headphone" output on the side of my Sony Bravia. All I did was plug it in there as opposed to plugging it into my laptop. That may or may not be the type of speakers you're trying to add but they are easy and give a good sound. I've freed up a lot of floorspace by using these. Also, I don't crank on the volume so that might also make a difference in why you want to add speakers. how do i hook external speakers to sony bravia - hook-external-speakers-sony-bravia-y4jkhvgbf5z5eqrm4ccbeswh-5-1.jpg

I have a sony bravia KDL-32L4000 LCD TV and the sound has gone

For anything you plug in or just certain things? Before the sound stopped, did you change the sound output to something different? Do you have external speakers plugged in?

If the built-in speakers on the tv are not working, plug the television into a set of external speakers, select the output in the menu accordingly and test them. If they work, might be the speakers are blown or the menu configuration is wrong.

Always check the simplest things first, then work your way up to the harder/more expensive issues.

Rule out speakers, speaker board, connectors, external speakers, components attached to television, etc.

Connecting speakers.

The speakers cannot be connected directly to the audio outputs. These outputs are for use with an external amplifier. Connecting speakers directly to these audio outputs can cause damage to the set. Thanks

I can't hear my tv speakers

If you are connecting your computer to your TV via the PC cable to look at the internet on your screen - you will also need to hook up an alternate audio cable from your computer to either external speakers or an audio receiver in order to hear sound - a PC cable only carries video from the computer to the television, no audio.
