Right-click on the little speaker in your tray (lower-right), and click "Recording devices". If it shows your Microphone as "Not plugged in", maybe you should connect the connection, and make sure you have it plugged in the correct place.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say. "I bet you have Internet explorer 8 installed" How do I know? This is a problem that just became apparant when people started running the new IE beta 2.
It even hit me. As far as solutions go, there isn't one YET as IE 8 is still in beta it is not supported yet and they have not released a patch for it yet.
So for now your left with a couple of options.
1.) Use another browser for your download needs until IE Beta 2.5 arrives (its not announced yet)
2.) Uninstall Internet Explorer 8 and revert back to IE7 Until IE8 is in a release state (RTM)
If 2.) is your option of choice. (This is the option I chose myself) Heres how its done.
Open Control Panel. Choose Programs. Then Uninstall. then "View installed updates'
now scroll through until you find "Windows Internet Explorer 8" Right click on it and select uninstall
Don't worry all of your bookmarks and personal settings will get transferred back to IE7
After the reboot you should be all set.

try to download drivers for vista from manufacturer.it could be reasons your old drivers if you installed ones.
