You need to log into the web page and use a registered phone to record messages.

https://www.google.com/voice/

Go to the GEAR drop down on far right side of screen. Then select SETTINGS. A new page opens, then select VOICEMAIL & TEXT tab
The record option is right there. If you have not linked the Google Voice number to a real phone yet, you do that on the PHONES tab.

One way to do this is open a google account (free) and sign up for Google Voice and get a Google phone number which you can use for free phone calls in USA. Then give out the Google phone number instead of yours. You can set the Google phone number to do a lot of things, including forward to any number you want to. Your phone, a friend you are visiting (or place), or a voice mail or translate to text and text you. Lots more. But that answers your question.

PS, Use Google Hangout and Hangouts Dialer to do the free calls.

<p>Sending an SMS from your mobile phone does not need to be complemented with your mobile phone. Google Voice and Spooftel allow you to send a text message from your phone using an application that turns your phone. You need a Google phone Voice to text messages and Spooftel is only available to "jail-broken" iPhones. <br /> <p><br /> <p>Google Voice <br /> <p>1. Visit Google and click on "More" followed by "More" and "Voice". <br /> <p><br /> <p>2. Log into your Google account and click "create an account." Enter your personal data and click "I accept. Create my account." You will receive an e-mail to your alternate account: Click the link in the email to verify your account. <br /> <p><br /> <p>3. Click "Get a Number" and enter your area code and / or word phrase to use as a phone number and click 'Search'. Select the desired number and click Continue. " <br /> <p><br /> <p>4. How do I set up voice mail
Voice mail is usually set on first button (number one) of dialer and when you press it for long time you get an message to set the voice mail number if not set earlier or by default. Just ask your provider for voice mail number and put it when requested.

NEED TO SET UP MY VOICE MAIL
Hi,If your account is enabled for voice mail, you can receive voice messages in your Inbox and also in a text message on your mobile phone. Both the message in your Inbox and the text message will include a preview of the voice message in text.
How do I set up voice mail?

1. Go to https://outlook.com to sign in to your mailbox, go to Options > Voice Mail tab, and then click Set Up Now.
2. When you set up your voice mail:
* You'll register your mobile phone number.
* Text messaging is set up. You can choose to be notified in a text message that you have voice mail or have missed a call.
* Call forwarding is set up so that your mobile provider forwards calls you receive to your voice mail. So if you don't answer your phone, your phone is busy, or you're unreachable or unavailable, the caller will be sent to your voice mail. After your personal greeting is played, the caller can leave a voice message for you.
* You can test whether your voice mail has been set up correctly by dialing your mobile phone number from your mobile phone. This verifies that call forwarding is correctly set up with your mobile provider.

How do I change my voice mail after I've set it up?

After you've finished setting up voice mail, you may want to:

* Change the mobile provider's voice mail number so you can use the key your provider has reserved for accessing voice mail to access your voice mail. For details about how to do this, see Changing the Number You Call to Access Your Voice Mail.
* Create a contact on your mobile phone. For details about how to do this, see Create a Contact for Voice Mail.
* Assign a speed dial key to the contact you create for Outlook Web App voice mail. For details about how to do this, see Set Up Speed Dialing for Voice Mail.

What else do I need to know?

* The voice mail service is available only to certain customers in certain regions. If you can use voice mail, you'll see a welcome message in your Inbox telling you how to set up voice mail for your account.

Get invalid number when I call voicemail
Hi,

There are specific numbers for Voice mail. The number that's usually added to your cell phone might not be the updated voice mail number for your cellphone.

In order to activate this service, you need to call your service provider. They would activate the settings from their end and they will let you know how to change and set the specific voice mail number for you.

Who's your carrier?

You can call 611 from ur phone for free and ask them what is the voicemail access number for your area code. You can also google the voicemail number it probably got accidently deleted and now u push and hold down #1 and nothin happens I am assuming.
