Unfortunately, the problem is with the charging port on the unit, which is from wear and tear. If the charging cable will not stay connected due to damage on the port, the best bet is to replace the entire GPS. You'll notice the port damage when the charging cable is fully seated and it still "wiggles" around. While Garmin's technical support may, and I mean may very loosely, offer a repair option at a fee it may be best to replace the unit with one of the newer models that include lifetime maps and the latest firmware. If the damage is to the cable, then it's a much cheaper option to purchase a replacement.

SOURCE: garmin nivi 200 won,t turn on

well if the plug is not making contact it cant recharge. you need to have it repaired and that may well be costly as it will require a new motherboard. Parts are no longer soldered or repaired The motherboard will be repalaced and the basic board is ^$90 the labour 1.5 hrs o 2 hrs minimum at $95 I am sure you will be able to buy a new model for the same cost

SOURCE: When I turn on the unit the word Garmin keeps flashing over and over, won't start up.

Hello,

I would suggest you reset the unit,if that doesn't solve the problem, then you will have to update your garmin nuvi, I think its out of date and needs to be updated. Follow the procedures below on how to update your garmin nuvi:

1. Plug one end of the USB cable into your GPS and the other end into your desktop or laptop computer. The GPS device will load the appropriate driver automatically, and a message on your GPS tells you that it is connected to your computer via USB.
2. Open your Internet browser of choice and type in the following web addres: "http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 "
3. Download the appropriate version of the software for your computer (Windows or Apple) and Install the WebUpdater by following the wizard (accept defaults).
4. Click "Start," "Programs," "Garmin" and " WebUpdater" to update your firmware and your maps. Periodically check and make sure your software is current.

Also, in case you don't know how to reset your garmin nuvi, you can follow the steps below: There are two types of reset;

Performing a Standard Reset

1. Slide the power switch all the way to the left (with the Nuvi's screen facing you).
2. Hold the switch in the position for at least eight seconds.
3. Push the switch to the right to power the Nuvi back on.

Performing a Factory Reset

1. Turn your Nuvi off by sliding the power switch to the left.
2. Press your finger against the bottom right corner of the touchscreen. Hold your finger in this position.
3. Slide the power switch to the right to turn the Nuvi back on. Continue to hold you finger against the screen until you see the factory reset prompt. Tap "Yes" to perform the factory reset.

Good luck...

How to turn on my garmin 265w

your battery in your garmin does not have enough power to stay on. You have to charge through your car outlet or usb port on computer. Only other option is to replace battery if it doesnt charge from car outlet since you said wont connect to computer.

My garmin nuvi 2555 says battery low and is plugged into the car

If the unit keeps displaying a pop up window saying that it will be shutting down with a count down timer then the problem is a loose USB port that keeps interrupting power to the unit. The reason why you receive a battery low warning is because the battery doesn't have a chance to charge because of the intermittent USB port. We see this problem all of the time on the Nuvi 11xx, 12xx, 13xx, 14,, and 25xx. We've repaired hundreds. Please see this link on why the problem happens and how we repair this problem so that it won't happen again.

Garmin forerunner 205 will not stay OFF and none of the buttons respond.

Yes you can restore your data from the TC after a hard reset. You have to go thtrough the setup menu like chose which language etc first.
Well I have exactly the same problem as you and a hard reset did not work either ...
Upgrading / downgrading the firmware also did not work.... the thing keeps on switching itself on regardless....
Do you have found out something more in the mean time?

My nuvi 1450 won't turn on and the garmin website updater won't reconize it hooked up to my computer even my computer won't reconize it.

I had the same problem with mine and got it working by doing the following while on the phone to Garmin. Plug your charger cord into the device and your computer (do not use a laptop, you need the higher current from a desktop for this). Hold the power button down for as long as it takes for the Garmin logo to display, this could be as much as 1 minute. As soon as the image shows on the screen, release the power button. If your Garmin isn't completely shot you will see it boot up.
If you have the Garmin Web Updater program on your computer, run it and update the operating system software to insure you have the latest greatest from Garmin. Once that is done, update your XML data files - they'll be on the list of updates if you need them. Once those are done you can update any voice or language files you'd like.
Lastly, leave your GPS plugged in at least an hour or two to give it a charge. Overnight would be better to insure your battery is really well powered up.
At this point your Garmin should function normally. The Garmin tech I spoke with told me some units start acting funky when the battery runs down too low and if it's REALLY dead it won't even take a charge or power up when you hook up your charger cord. Try holding the power button for as long as it takes to get a spark & you should be on your way. If not, call Garmin's support number for your locale & they're do their best to get you back up & running again.
Cheers, Jeff
