Have you tried connecting the drive to another computer using Windows 7 or later. You could try chkdisk /f at a command prompt or get the testdisk app to identify deeper issues with the drive.

When you use external adapters to plug drives into USB ports the drive needs to be set for mast not slave. The internal drive is one one channel and external drive is on a different channel so neither drive is a slave, both are masters with not slave drive present. Try removing the jumper you installed and try the drive, it should be seen because all windows XP or later do not need drivers for USB drives.

Certainly, any files that you write using Windows XP will be able to be read with Windows 7.

I'm not familiar with the CEEDO program -- did the author update it for Windows 7 ?

The software that you are trying to install has not been verified for use with Windows 7.
It was verified for use with XP and 32-bit-Vista.

Look on SeaGate's web-site for an updated version of the software that will be compatible with Windows 7.

If you call me I can probably get it fixed. It's a "little" against the rules here, but no one here can give you this fix without ALOT more info.

i think its a problem with the device drivers, try it on another pc to ensure the problem is not from the drive,

Windows 7 probably don't recognize it. keep an eye out for it at the manufactor website, for a driver. Windows 7 is turning out to be like windows vista

You will have to send it to a data recovery company in order to retrive the data sounds like the circuit board failed therefore the drive is not receiving power.Usually if this board is good you would hear the drive spin up.
