How to make my 500 mybook compatible with windows vista

Hello,

Normally by default, these external storage devices are pre-configured to work with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. If you are having troubles making it work with Windows Vista, try to reformat the device with NTFS formatting and it should run smoothly.

The chances are that the portable drive is drawing more current fom the USB port then the port can supply. The current limitations on the USB ports are controlled electronically and if anything is connectedthat attempts to draw more power then the port can safely supply, the port is shut down.
You may have to use a USB power injector which you plug into the laptop and then plug the drive into that.

This drive should work with Windows 7. Contact WD support and they can send you diagnostics to run.

The only thing to do is make sure you go through all Windows Updates. Then go to manufacturer's website and download Win 7 drivers. Then install via add new hardware. Sounds more like a USB driver issue...
