Disk not being Recognised: Windows XP asking for driver

I have switched my hard Disk(Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 40 GB) from an AMD Athelon computer to Intel P IV computer, both running on Windows XP. But on the new computer on booting the system is asking for the driver of the disk. Where can I get the driver or any other remedy for it?

Barracuda (ST380215A) 80 GB IDE (ULTRA ATA) 7200.10 Hard Drive Problem While installing Windows Xp sp3 hard drive not detect @ partition screen System configuration is as: Processor:- AMD Athlon XP...

Hi,
Seems like your hard drive is malfunctioning, try another HD. That 80gb is already obsolete and the circuit board might have some defect.
If you could pull out the underside circuit and clean the gold contact points and try it again, if still not working...... buy a new one!
Check also the jumper and cable it must be in the "master" configuration.

Hope that helps you out!
Thanks for asking FixYa!

Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160GB

You don' t say what OS or even type of computer (PC, Mac, Windows XP, 98, vista etc) you are running, or whether the drive has been used before. If it's a new drive then it probably needs formatting, so you can allow the OS to do that. If it contains data that you need then DO NOT allow the OS to format it.

If you know it is formatted & contains data, then it sounds like the OS is not recognising the format. Windows 98 typically won't recognise NTFS disks formatted on Windows XP for example or Linux Ext3/4 format disks won't be recognised by Windows. In the latter case, you can download a free driver which will do that for you - google Ext 4 and Windows.
