I dont think yours is a battery issiue, I would call the manufacture on the first page of the manual. although if you dont replace the charge on the unit at least monthly the batteries wont be healthy. If you are going to store it make sure the alkaline batteries are out of the mic or transmitter unit. and you can unplug the rechargeable one as well. this will help the battery life.
I think the model 1196 manual is almost identical to the 1195. If you want the 1195 manual email me and I will send it to you.

Manuals here: http://www.angelcare-monitor.com/Canada/en/help#tabs-2 Had same problem - here's what worked for AC401 (from manual): CONNECTING THE PARENTS UNIT TO THE NURSERY UNIT: If you lose the connection between the 2 units, turn them both off. Turn ON the parents unit and press and hold the MENU button ,the "out of range"indicator will flash and you will hear a beep.Turn ON the nursery unit and press and hold the top button of the nursery unit to reconnect. The Tic light flashes. This normally happens within a few seconds and you will hear a bleep to confirm it. If successful, the parents unit display will first show the channel of transmission (C1 to C8), which will be replaced by the room temperature and icons for all activated functions.
The unit may not be big enough. From the model number I am thinking you a/c is a 12000 btu. Which is usally enough for a large room. However if you have an open floor plan or a really large room you may need a bigger or second unit.
If you don't have an after market service manual with electrical diagrams, you may end up destroying your stereo.
I'd recommend you buy one for your Corolla or contact the unit's mfr. to see if they have one you can buy.
I don't have the book for this particular unit but, check the sequencers that control the electric heat mode, as the regulator heat pump works good. The part may have a time or temperature delay that is too long for you. Also if it has a remote thermostat, check the heat anticipate setting. You will have to check the installation manuel, but its usually .6 to .8, but I don't think that is the problem.
