Kinect is acting up and not recognizing my voice or commands

Don't worry, you're not the only one with this problem. A common solution is to dump your memory on the Kinect (which was probably corrupt accidentally by the update). In order to do this, you need to go into the settings on your kinect and power it off, then shut down the console. After this, you must unplug the Xbox from it's power source and wait about 30 seconds for the internal power to shut off. After that, it should work perfectly, otherwise your kinect may be faulty and subject to repair.

Xbox kinect has red light with no message on tv

Hello, this is a first for me. I have yet to come across a Kinect with a problem. A quick search and I see that it's actually kind of common. From what I can find, and after a few calls, it seems the only solution I can find is this at xbox support. It seems to say it could be the cord or the power outlet or simply needing an update. From the Kinect, the cable should go to what looks like a splitter. There should be a little green light on it. If not, it may not be getting power but the red light would come on powered from the xbox itself which is not enough to power the Kinect of course. Try to plug the Kinect into another outlet. They say the xbox and Kinect are not suppose to go to a power bar, surge protector or extension cord. I know that sounds crazy but it's true. If another outlet works then you know it's just the outlet. If that doesn't work, can you borrow another cable from someone to try, that can eliminate issues too. If the other cord works you know that's all you have to replace. The other thing to try is putting a Kinect game into the console and see if it asks you for an update. That could be your issue too. Try these and if none of them work, I would think you need to replace the Kinect cables. Hopefully it's not the Kinect itself. If these don't help, you will most likely need a repair or the connect will have to be replaced :( I hope this helps, let me know.

My kinect does not turn on the light stays on red

Try unplugging the kinect and then the x-box power for a few minutes. Then plug the kinect in before reconnecting the power. If that doesn't work you may have to contact microsoft support, there should be a phone # on the package.

No green light? Try plugging the cable into another outlet to make sure the cable is working properly. If you still do not see a green light your cable needs to be replaced. Contact Xbox Support.
  5. Turn on the console.
Other solutions can be found on the Xbox support site by following the link below.

Trying to connect the kinect

First off make sure you have at least 190 mb of space in your HDD before trying to set up your kinect.
Setup:
Step 1: Make sure your xbox 360 is properly connected to the television with the AV cables and power cable to an outlet.
Step 2: Place sensor under or on top of your television on a stable flat surface.
Step 3: Depending on your xbox the sensor has two different connections. If you have the new slim xbox 360 then you do not need the extra add on connection you simply connect it to a special port for it on the back of your xbox 360 slim. If it is a older version xbox then you will need the extra power adaptor since it will not work without it.(Cable with power connection)
Step 4; (ONLY FOR OLDER VERSION XBOX 360): If you have a wireless connection adaptor unplug it from the usb port in the back of the xbox 360 and connect the kinect sensor's power adaptor into the port you took the wireless connection adaptor off of. There should be a special cable that will act as an extension for the wireless connection adaptor you unplugged this is so you can connect it directly to the usb ports in the front of the xbox 360. Then plug the end with the power outlet connector of the kinect sensor power adaptor into the wall socket.
Step 5: Turn on the xbox 360 and the kinect sensor should move up and down to adjust.
Step 6: Put kinect game in and it will guide you through kinect settings and your on your way to start playing! Have Fun!

What does it mean when the kinect says "The kinect sensor can't move" We have tried multiple things to fix it and nothing it working. Thankyou.

The Kinect sensor has a motorized mount so the camera can adjust itself up and down to follow movements in the room. If you are getting that message something is either physically preventing it from moving or you have a manufacturing defect (any Kinect should still be under warranty and you should be able to simply exchange it for a working one)

I have a Kinect as well and can tell you that message isn't normal in its use so definately clear the area around the sensor or simply just return it for exchange as stated.

I.m trying to play a kinect game and the kinect tuner gives me this error code (coooooc2)

Hi Chris

Kindly specify if you have a "slim" version of the Xbox 360 or the older one?

The error code you have specified here seems to triggering due to a hardware issue of your Kinect device.

If you have a older version of Xbox 360 which requires you to use a separate power supply for Xbox 360 try these steps

  1. Turn off the console.
  2. Make sure the power cord is plugged into a working electrical outlet.
  3. Make sure the USB connector is plugged into the back of the console.
  4. The light located near the middle of the split cable should be green.
Post that re-calibrate your Kinect tuner and check if it's working else you may have to get your Kinect device replaced from Microsoft

Hi Eddie,
Try with different USB ports if you are using old XBOX and getting message as " insufficient power". It seems to be a adapter issue why don't you visit store and exchange the XBOX 360 Kinect device.

Thank you for using Fixya.
