Bobbin thread doesn't catch.

I have a brand new Singer 7422 that has never worked. Unfortunately the warranty expired before I ever tried to use it, so I'm stuck fixing it myself. First the needle was ripping the fabric. I jammed it up as far into the holder as I could, and now it seems to be doing better. However, now the bobbin won't catch. I'm thinking that maybe the problems are related, but I can't find anything in the manual or online that offers a solution. Any help would be appreciated!

Our machine worked the first time out of the box, but hasn't picked up the bobbin thread since.  We tried to return it, but of course the 3 months had passed, so now we are faced with getting it to a repair shop.  How do you change the timing

SOURCE: Singer 7422 bobbin thread bunching up

I assume you checked to see there are no needle bits in the bobbin case holder.
Without looking at the machine it is difficult to diagnose the problem. It could be any one or a combination of problems, timing, needle bar height, damage to the hook and base etc.
I strongly suggest you have it looked at by a sewing machine tech.

Make sure you have the machine threaded for the bobbin and not threaded through the sewing path. Also, check to make sure that the bobbin is pushed directly against the post as far as possible.

SOURCE: Bobbin won't wind Singer 7422

Your problem lies with the main shaft that is to tight to release the bobbin winder mechanism, because of old grease and oil becoming sticky. A short term solution will be to remove the needle, in order not to hurt you, and then hold on to the needle bar with your left hand, while engaging the bobbin lever with your left hand. This will prevent the main shaft to rotate and your winder should work. In the long term, take it to your dealer to clean the oil and grease. You will not be able to open the machine casing yourselve, as you might damage the casing and or electronics.

Good luck!

SOURCE: Singer 6267 self winding bobbin winds around shaft under

I just figured out why my bobbine was winding on shaft instead of on the bobbin. first of all make sure the bobbin is setting up high enough, top of bobbin needs to be a fraction higher then the bobbin shuttle, next check to make sure there are no burrs on the bobbin, then make sure that the thear is catching in the groove (**** in top) of the bobbin. In order to get mine to wind i had to lett the tread go down and then slip the thread in the groove. also remember to leave the pressure foot up do not put it down. let me know if this helps.

Top thread will not pick up bobbin thread on my model 7422

try a new needle--make sure it's the right needle for the fabric
being sewed.
try rethreading the machine top and bobbin --make sure to use
every thread guide
try a different bobbin
it's also possible that the machine could have a timing problem
and needs to be checked

have you tried changing the needle?
is the needle in backwards?
is the needle inserted all the way into the needle holder?
clean under needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or loose thread
did you hit something with the needle?

Threading

could be the timing. check your needle first. Use a new needle and see if that helps. Make sure it is installed with flat side in proper place. Make sure it is correct length.

Bobbin tension is too loose

"Birdnesting" occurs when there is no tension on the needle thread to pull the bobbin thread. This is easily corrected by rethreading the machine, following the threading path carefully and making sure the thread is fully engaged in the tension mechanism.

Singer advance 7422

My Singer 7422 seems to be jammed. When I start to make a stitch, the thread from the needle gets caught on something on the bottom and the thread goes over the bobbin.
