Compaq pp2140 remove hard disk drive

Possibly bad memory or hard drive.

Bad RAM.

go to compaq.com support they'll ask for your model number operating system xp or vista or windows 7. If its xp they have the driver download available all though I doubt if you need it unless you just installed the xp os. To answer your question yes it does if its ap 2140 there is no pp2140 that i saw.

1. Unplug the AC adapter, if present, and then remove the battery.
2. On the bottom of the notebook, remove the hard disk drive rubber screw plugs and
M2.5×6.0mm screws. (The number of plugs and screws varies by model).
3. Carefully pull the hard disk drive out of the notebook.
4. Remove the four M3.0×4.0mm screws from the hard disk drive and hard disk drive tray,
and then lift the drive out of the tray.
5. Remove the connector bar from the hard disk drive.

You computer cannot find your hard disk. The hard drive could be faulty or the hard disk controller has failed.
Reseat the hard drive (remove it and install it again), this may fix your problem with the connector on the motherboard.
If reseating doesn't work, the hard drive may be faulty, remove the drive and insert it into a USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port, if this computer see your hard disk as an external drive and you can see the contents of the hard drive then it is OK and the fault most likely is the controler in the laptop.
If you cannot see the hard drive then the hard drive is faulty. To get your laptop operational again, you need a new hard disk and need to install Windows on the new hard disk together with your

yeah they are right, and i don't think they are acutally compatible

Leave the battery out and try booting up on ac power only.
