The refrigerator makes a banging noise every so often- works fine just bangs
SOURCE: Noises when starting up
Mine also makes a knocking noise...like someone's at the door (it freaks the dog out every time). The customer support people say it's normal and so far it hasn't died after two years, so I guess it's not a problem.

ON THE AUGER MOTOR IS A COUPLER THAT SLIDES INTO THE AUGER WHEN THE BIN IS INSTALLED. SOMETIMES, THE COUPLER WILL ROUND OUT THE FLAT SIDE OF THE CENTER HOLE. THIS WILL CAUSE THE MOTOR TO CONTINUE TO TURN, BUT THE COUPLER WILL REMAIN STILL DUE TO THE RESISTANCE OF THE BIN AUGER. ALSO, BE SURE THE ICE IN THE BIN HASN'T MELTED TOGETHER BINDING UP THE AUGER. IF NECESSARY, REMOVE THE ICE AND START OVER WITH FRESH ICE. YOU MAY NEED TO REPLCAE THE COUPLER OR AUGER MOTOR.

unless the airflow is obstructed (like the refrigerator is on carpet), then it should not run more than a couple hours at a time. if you just got it today and loaded it up with stuff then it might take 24 hours for the temperatures to stabilize.
SOURCE: the ice maker on our GE refrigerator does not make ice
1 -Ice maker arm must be down(on position)2-Make sure the water supply line is connected to the fridge3Check if the ice maker is plugged in4The freezer must be working fine for the ice maker to produce ice. After the ice maker stars and calls for water and doesn't get any , the water valve is bad.And if everything above is ok the ice maker needs to be replaced.
