Amana Model # ARS2464B Refrigerator and freezer does not work right
This is my brothers fridge. I stopped to take a look at it after he called me. The freezer was warm he said when called me and on the phone I could here a clicking noise that sounded like the protector tripping. So I had him unplug it. When I stopped to look at it I removed the cover to get to the compressor. I at first removed the run cap and what I think is the protector, relay and run cap. But i decided to see if it would run so i put the relay and protector back on with out the run cap. I plugged it in and the compressor started and ran. The fans seem to be working and after a few minutes there was cool air coming from the freezer area. I checked the amps at the compressor and it only showed 2.1 amps. After about 15 minutes i unplugged the refrigerator and waited a little while hoping the pressures in the system would balance then plugged it in and the compressor would not run it sounded like the protector tripped. Then i unplugged it and reinstalled the run cap and it still would not run. I thought about trying a new relay but i hate to by parts that i do not need. This has a Techumseh compressor in it. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Amana Model # ARS2464B Refrigerator and freezer does...
The problem is the compressor. Techumseh compressors are notorious for this problem. Pretty soon it won't start at all. The compressor has a 5 yr warranty from date of purchase. I replace these all the time. The good thing is they are replacing them with Embraco compressors which are much better quality. Would appreciate a solved rating for expert advice.

fridge to warm? check thermistor, the cold control ( sometimes called defrost timer) and the air control assembly, check to see if air control is to far closed or opened? the inlet to the fridge from freezer. sometimes a bad defrost terminator will hinder the air flow and freeze up the fan from operating and freezer section thus no air flow to the fridge..
Recheck the board wiring, and make sure the damper has power when the thermostat calls for cooling in the fridge. If there is power, it's the motor or its connection to the baffle plate. If no power, it's the board.
sounds like compressor has failed remove the fridge and put your hand on the black unit at the back (compressor) it should be quite warm if running if not its not starting compressor are at there most stress when starting up and if failing this defrost may have killed it completely
It is normal for the strip between the freezer and fresh food compartments to be warm to the touch. It's called the mullion strip and uses gas from the compressor discharge line to prevent moisture from forming there. Older models used an electric heater to do the same thing.
As far as the one time operational failure......it's a bit difficult to even guess not knowing the brand and model. Talk to us if it fails again.
Your defrost timer seems to be bad. Find it at the bottom of the fridge and turn the knob to see if it activates. If it does then it is bad. If it doesn't activate then your element or thermosat is bad. These parts are not to expensive and you can do it yourself and save some big bucks. Be safe and disconnect power before servicing.
just called in a sears technician 150 dollar bill that was an easy fix.
he says my bottom freezer kenmore fridge with warm fridge problem was
due to the pathway being blocked by ice and garbage which is common
with these fridges. he took off cover from the fridge bottom and poured
boiling water down to the freezer. try that before you replace any
parts or call in a tech. next time im getting a top freezer because the
blower is on the top not in the middle with the bottom freezers and
thus more problem prone.
I faced the same problem for Kenmore elite Trio Model # 795.77543600 bottom freezer refrigerator. The issue as pointed out by Medeer on fixya.com, turned out to be the part called component assembly, part number 6615JB2005H. I got this replaced yesterday but for 4 hours I did not notice any cooling... so I thought it did not work.... but then in the morning I notice that the issue has been resolved, the refrigerator is cold and there is no eR dH error message.
