This is my brothers fridge. I stopped to take a look at it after he called me. The freezer was warm he said when called me and on the phone I could here a clicking noise that sounded like the protector tripping. So I had him unplug it. When I stopped to look at it I removed the cover to get to the compressor. I at first removed the run cap and what I think is the protector, relay and run cap. But i decided to see if it would run so i put the relay and protector back on with out the run cap. I plugged it in and the compressor started and ran. The fans seem to be working and after a few minutes there was cool air coming from the freezer area. I checked the amps at the compressor and it only showed 2.1 amps. After about 15 minutes i unplugged the refrigerator and waited a little while hoping the pressures in the system would balance then plugged it in and the compressor would not run it sounded like the protector tripped. Then i unplugged it and reinstalled the run cap and it still would not run. I thought about trying a new relay but i hate to by parts that i do not need. This has a Techumseh compressor in it. Any help would be appreciated.
The problem is the compressor. Techumseh compressors are notorious for this problem. Pretty soon it won't start at all. The compressor has a 5 yr warranty from date of purchase. I replace these all the time. The good thing is they are replacing them with Embraco compressors which are much better quality. Would appreciate a solved rating for expert advice.

I have the same clicking noise and the compressor is not kicking on and cooling anymore. if i unplug it and replug it.It comes back on but it is getting worse. It also makes a buzzing noise at times when it is not cooling. How much is a new compressor for this product. I have had my fridge 5-6 years. I hate to purchase a new one already.
