Black screen for Shooting Canon S3 IS

The camera turns on nice and views pics for review well. It is a black / blank screen when taking pictures and viewfinder stays black. The last few pictures taken before problem were blurry and hazy. Any thoughts?

I have a similar problem with my Canon S3 IS. Dark/black LCD in Shooting mode. However, I can view my existing photos in Display mode. I was about to spend money to get a Panasonic TZ5. Somehow I bumped into a solution post for S2 IS. Here is the link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/t1090569-black_screen

I tried their solutions twice and it WORKS. My S3 is working fine now.

Black screen on my canon S3 Si camera

This sounds like a common image sensor failure. Unfortunately Canon stopped fixing this problem over a year ago. Parts are NLA.

My camera shows black on the screen and view finder but when I download the memory card the pictures are there?

This may seem silly, but is it possible that you're accidentally turning the camera on to camera mode rather than review mode with the lens cap on? That would explain a black screen without being able to view images on the card. Just a thought.

Canon eos rebel xsi screen is black when taking a picture but shows picture afterwards..Menu works also so screen works but just black when trying to take a pic..

Set the shooting mode to a Creative Zone mode. Press MENU to enter the menu. Under the Setup tab, select [Live View function settings] then press SET. Select [Live View shoot] and press SET. Select [Enable] and press SET. Press MENU to exit the menu. Press SET. The image should now appear on the LCD instead of through the viewfinder.

Refer to "Live View Shooting," Chapter 5 in the manual for more details and the limitations of the LiveView mode.

On my Canon Powershot S3, the screen is black when turned on. I can review old pictures, but can not take any new pictures.

Your camera has a stuck shutter. Canon will not fix this for free. There is a guy on eBay that fix this issue for a low price. Fix is for Canon S2, S3, S5 with stuck shutter. here is the link in case you need: http://www.ebay.com/itm/141414188140

Camera turns on, lens goes out, but it is black, see nothing through it or on lcd screen (yes, cover is off). There is no error messages, still takes pictures but just black. Can view previous pictures on...

It coud be a very common IRIS/Shutter stuck problem...this has been reported on lot of S3 IS & S2 IS cameras... just search for this on web and you'll find a temporary solution also (related to taking battery out in the middle of taking picture during a long exposure (15" in Tv mode), but for more permanent fix you need take it back to Canon service center

Black screen while shooting, but still taking pictures not black

Nonononooooo fotomohamed, he can review just taken pictures on the LCD. The screen is working.

Actually, it sounds like you just accidentally pressed the DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the screen on and off in picture taking mode to save batteries (you would then use optical viewfinder). Just press it once and it should turn back on.

When shooting my screen is black and pics. are black

try to take video on Movie mode, if you won't get picture on LCD the CCD is dead. That means you need to replace the whole zoom lens. it costs a lot, not worth to repair.

Blank picture screen

Did you accidentally hit the "DISP" button on the back of your camera? It manually turns the LCD screen on and off to save batteries.

Blank LCD screen on shooting mode, but does show settings. Will not take pictures. Replaying mode works, shows pictures taken before screen went blank. New batteries. What is going on??? Is it...

The Display button manually turns the LCD display on or off to save batteries. If you accidentally had turned the LCD off, It should only take one press of the button to turn it back on and leave it that way. As such, it's not you but the camera. The A570 IS is relatively new. Your camera is likely still under warranty. If so, contact Canon for warranty repair (see the following link):
